Re: Drastic change in pattern
Our experience was to use liquid valium administered rectally ASAP. We would administer it again if needed. This was with the blessing of our neurologist. We adminstered oral valium as soon as Trinity could swallow. The intent was for the liquid valium to break/prevent a cluster (she almost always c...

Re: What to do with your epileptic pup when you travel?
Our leisure traveling came to an abrupt halt when Trinity started seizuring. We simply thought it too much to ask of anyone else to be as regulated and meticulous as we were with her care. Things were further complicated by the fact that any change in routine made her anxious. On occasion if we were...

Re: When do YOU go to the emergency room? - Group Discussion
I think what MK's Mom said is what we all fear (or for me, feared)....waiting too long. As Trinity's epilepsy progressed, we became better at managing it and at recognizing the small signs that more often than not, signaled more seizures were coming. And also as time went on, her seizures were almos...

Re: New and worried :o(
You've been given good advice thus far! Educate yourself. But be sure to take a break from the internet as well. Sometimes it can just get to be too much. Put together a seizure kit of items that you may need to have readily handy to clean up or keep your dog safe. Keep a journal of seizures. Note a...

Re: Seizure or too much PB?
As you've already been advised, be sure to mention this to the vet. Over time, we became very adept at recognizing signs of small seizure activity. Most often the vet assured us that what we were seeing was, in fact, abnormal brain activity and that the meds were preventing this activity from becomi...

Scott, continued good wishes!
Helena, sorry for your loss.
We all understand. Even though it's been 8 months since we lost Trinity, reading through posts like these still brings a tear.

I hope Spike had a peaceful night. Those of us who post here understand the fear and anxiety.
We also had an MRI and spinal tap done. It ruled out that there was no underlying cause and simply left us with the diagnosis of idiopathic epilepsy.

Re: Frequent Groggy cough & very weak limbs
Does anyone else find the advice to keep the dog immobile for 60 days to be suspicious? Trinity had some rough times with hind leg weakness everytime her medication was increased. Yes, it was very painful to see her that way and I always thought it would be forever. But it never was, she always got ...

Re: GOOD NEWS ON CHARLIE!!!
Our experience with medication was very much as Brian described theirs to be. Over time, Trinity acclimated to her medications. No, she never was exactly the same. She played, enjoyed walks and enjoyed our company but with a bit less stamina and vigor. When she first started meds or whenever she inc...

Re: GOOD NEWS ON CHARLIE!!!
I know all of our stories and experiences are anecdotal and that no 2 dogs are alike, but please know that we understand your feelings. For what it's worth, Trinity's first year of seizures were extremely difficult to control. Our neurologist was quite liberal with using medication at doses higher t...

Re: Seizures and Heart Disease (new to forum)
I am sorry I cannot offer any insight regarding your questions of heart disease/medication. I can, however, share our experience about walking. We made absolutely sure that we continued walking every day. Our Trinity definitely had hind leg weakness from her medications. We felt that it was very imp...

Re: focal seizures
Trinity had focals that would come before grand mals and some that would come after. Our neuro also told us that if not for her routine meds, they would all likely be grand mals. Trinity usual had head "tics" and sometimes lip twitching. Once we fully realized what her patterns were, we used rectal ...
