Re: Cali weaning off meds and onto Holistic

I have been saying just one thing in this whole forum and I am saying it because I want everyone to know how to tackle this problem. Stop those medications and try to stop his exercises. I mean, this has worked for me. I mean, he has a certain problem, which cannot cope up with his exercise. The sa...

UPDATE Re: 241 days

I can't believe its been so long. Kiya just celebrated her 11th birthday! For a Shepherd that's great, for a Shepherd with seizures that's pretty incredible! She started having more frequent seizures in 2013 about 11 that I knew of. I started her on a partial liver cleansing diet because her liver v...

Re: Liver cleansing dietj

It's been a long time since I've posted here. Just wanted to say Kiya is still getting liver cleansing diet, Natures Domain kibble and I give her Honest Kitchen for breakfast. I also added turmeric paste in July of 2014. She had a 6 month seizure free streak which I feel the turmeric played a part i...

Re: Liver cleansing dietj

I had bloodwork done on Kiya Saturday and there was only a few numbers higher so apparently the new diet is keeping her liver values at bay. I also spoke to my vet about zonisimide and weaning her off pb or at least lowering it. She's had about 7 seizures this year that I know of.

Re: First Grand Mal (sorry long, first post)

Wish I had some answers for you. KBR can definatly cause ataxia, causing wobbliness. I also belong to another support group http://www.canine-epilepsy.com/Resources.html there's a little more activity there.
Hang in there, I know how frustrating it can be.

Re: Seizures and Roundup

Roundup is one of the most dangerous products on the market, just google it. Any chemical product could have deadly concequences. Unfortuneately my husband uses roundup in our beach-stone driveway I won't let the dogs walk there for days. We stopped all lawn and garden chemicals years ago when Kiya ...

Re: Should I switch dog food?

I have no idea how many hours I've spent on the food subject. I learned to read ingredients and if it isn't fit for me to eat then why should my dog eat it. Currently I have Kiya on 50% liver cleansing diet and 50% decent kibble. My husband gets upset because I cook for the dog more than I cook for ...

Re: Just checking in after a long time

Hello there! Yes I hate to see all the new people that have to join. Kiya seems to be doing as well as I can expect, she turned 9 in May. I hope we offer a little spark of hope that some dogs can lead a somewhat normal life with seizures and meds.

Re: Don't always assume it's only epilepsy: Two diseases

Idiopathic epilepsy is diagnossed as a process of elimination and there is no explanation for seizures. Sometimes you have to adjust the meds aka "tweak" to get the control needed. When you have a vet that is experienced with Epilepsy and your dog has good control with meds, it's not always necessar...

Re: Underground Electric Fence

I have a hot wire running from my horse fence to keep the dogs off our rhodies and my garden. Kiya knows not to touch it, I'm sure she's gotten zapped in the past.

Re: Underground Electric Fence

Sorry I would never rely on one of those with my dogs, specially with Kiya having seizures. If she got away and couldn't get her meds.

Re: Liver cleansing dietj

Kiya loves her new home cooked diet. I'm going slow with the change. She's a big girl, 118lbs so I really would like to add back a good kibble, this could be pricy.

Re: cluster seizures caused by vaccinations?

Sorry to read about your puppy. Have you contacted the breeder? Anything is possible and the vaccines could have caused a reaction. 16 weeks seems young for rabies, I could be wrong. A lt of vets spread the shots apart over time and don't give a lot at once.
