Re: recovery time from IV pheno - (Update:We lost Miss Dixie

Thank you all for the uplifting comments. :). We just received a letter from the dean of University of Missouri, Columbia, stating our local vet contributed to the pet memorial program in Miss Dixie's honor. Our vets knew Dixie pretty well as you can imagine. It's great to know that they genuinely c...

Re: recovery time from IV phenobarb

Hello all. I just wanted to post that Miss Dixie has passed on. I was looking forward to posting next month that she had been seizure free for a whole year, but she did not make it. The past 4 years or so, she has been battling immune system problems, particularly with her skin and nose. We we...

Well, each day she has indeed improved. They are tiny improvements, but at least she's able so hold herself up and walk for short distances and can do her business without too much difficulty. Thank you for the encouragement!

recovery time from IV pheno - (Update:We lost Miss Dixie)

Our Dixie was admitted to the emergency vet because her seizures returned after about 7 months (clusters). While there, she had two seizures. After the second one, they started phenobarb intravenously (two loading doses in one day) and we brought her home that evening (last night around 6pm). She wa...

Good/bad news

Since may 08, Dixie has been off pheno and only on Kbr, seizure free! About a week ago, she had one seizure in the morning. All was fine until yesterday. She had 3 seizures in the morning, all within an hour and a half of eachother, then another two in the afternoon. Took her to the vet and they dre...

Hi all. Just wanted to give an update. We had her siezures down to about one every 2-3 weeks, which isn't good, but better than once or twice every few days. She was on 700MG KBr per day and 186mg Pbarbs per day. Her last liver checkup showed liver enzymes starting to rise, so the decision was made ...

Epi dog now has enlarged thyroid on one side

Hello all. Our 35 lb english springer spaniel has been on 180MG PB per day and is also on KBr. We have her breakthroughs down to about once per month and her hepatic functions are great. The other day, we discovered her thyroid on her left side was enlarged to the size of a silver dollar. The vet as...

We haven't changed a thing chemical-wise in the house. We've even stopped using the usual floor cleaners and now wipe down with baby wipes. No fertilizers or insect killers. Not even a change in lifestyle. We just can't figure out why it's during meals. Also, it seems like her dosages are kind of hi...

We didn't know about the food switching, but this is the first time since she was on KBr. Our vet just told us to consult either the experts at Columbia, MO. or in St. Louis. We're just concerned about the cost of this, but there seems to be no other choice.

Siezures not under control, right at mealtime, on PB and KBr

Hi all, Last December, our English springer spaniel (Dixie, Female, 2yrs old) began having grand-mal siezures. She is about 34 lbs and VERY active. She has been on phenobarbs and KBr and is still not under control (siezes once every couple weeks). Our vet suggested we seek specialized help in this m...
