I don't mean to deflate your balloon but my impression is that Dr Dodds finds thyroid problems in about 75% of the epi dogs she tests. I've read enough about the whole thyroid issue to believe that interpreting the test results is more art than science. I HAVE heard a few people say that their dogs'...

I have a supply of liquid Valium and syringes on hand for emergencies. I really think this is important and every epi dog should have it available, especially if the dog does clusters or has gone into status, and the fact is that any of them could have an emergency at any time. I don't use it very o...

I don't know if the Denamarin (milk thistle + SAMe) helped or not. I kind of think the main thing was the Pb reduction. I have tried ice cream and ice packs in the past and they never did anything. Same with Rescue Remedy. My sister is always phoning me to say how she's just saved some wild animal l...

I have good news! This dog of mine apparently has nine lives. We retested his bile acids and the results now say his liver is almost normal. It's incredible how much better it got in a couple weeks on a lower dose of Pb. I got as far as cutting his Pb dose in half, and we're going to leave it there ...

Thanks all for the nice thoughts. He's on Denamarin, which is a combo of milk thistle and samE, or is it SAMe, i can never remember. Not sure if it's a complete waste of money or not. All i know is that his liver got a whole lot worse since he's been on it, not that that means anything. Nancy, that'...

Nancy, if your dog starts licking the way mine does, prepare to be driven insane. It's almost every waking moment, all day long. A bunch of different vets have seen it and none of them know what it is. It could be lots of things, but nobody ever mentioned pain, and i'm sure it isn't pain with Jackso...

Yeah, that sounds bad, and i don't have any ideas because my dog's post-ictal is nowhere near that bad, or at least nowhere near that long. And i see your dog is on lots of phenobarb, even more than my dog when you take weight into account. I hope you're having frequent blood tests to check his liver.

Jane, he's been on Pb about 2.5 years and yes, it's a much higher dose than most dogs get so this liver problem doesn't come as a big surprise to me. It does point out the importance of getting frequent blood tests (including bile acids) so that any liver issues can be caught as early as possible. H...

Bad Liver
Jackson's liver has gone bad, almost certainly from the phenobarb. I started reducing his Pb dose 4 days ago and he's probably going to need to get off it completely pretty fast, but we'll see how the bile acid tests look as we go along. Scary! But this is my chance to see if the Keppra will work be...
