Goodbye my beautiful Toby

Hello Friends, It is with a very heavy heart that I write this post tonight..I said good-bye to my best mate yesterday morning :( The reason I am posting under success stories is because despite my broken heart, the last few months of Toby's life were a success and I feel so blessed that I was given...

Re: Desperate for advice...

Thnaks Clare, Sorry to hear you were in a similar place with Cullin :( It's just so hard sometimes to balance it all and know which way to go... I hope Cullin is doing ok now? Since i last posted, Toby has marginally improved - the last two mornings when walking, he has galloped for a bit! And we al...

Re: Frequent simple focal seizures

Hi Pam, I'm so pleased that you have had success with Buffy! I'm particularly interested as I heard a few people now had success with Keppra for focal (myoclonic) seizures. Unfortunately my poor boy Toby (10.5 yo greyhound) is doing it tough at the moment as he is on high doses of pheno and kbr as w...

Re: Desperate for advice...

Hi Lynne & Katarina, Thank-you both for your words :) Katarina, so sorry to hear you lost your Ben. You are so right though, it does affect our lives so much and I would take Toby as far as I can - as long as he is still happy. Unfortunately, these last couple of days really made me question that. L...

Desperate for advice...

Hi Friends, I haven't been around for quite a while but I am in a bit of a state and hope someone has some advice... My boy Toby (43kg greyhound, 10.5 yo) has been battling monthly grand mal seizures for the last 3 years. He was started on pheno 2 yrs ago and we gradually have increased that dose to...

Re: New medication options?

Thanks for your replies :) We went in to see our neurologist today - he squeezed us in with virtually no notice, great guy! - and i feel a bit better. I feel like he is really in it with us and once we talked through the options and he gave me his opinion, i felt much better. We WILL try kbr once we...

New medication options?

Hello friends, I am sad to report that i feel my Toby is slipping away from me :( Despite upping the pheno dose twice in as many months, he is still haveing monthly grand mals - but now focals too. The focals now follow the grand mal - the last went for 10 mins after a grand mal. but now, in the las...

Re: Toby's progress....

Thanks Chris & Brian, I will have a chat to our neuro friday - but i take the point about 1 monthly seizure is considered good control :) i remember when we talked about pheno initially, the neuro said that as a basic rule of thumb, it doesnt do much better than 1 per month. But i was still optimist...

Toby's progress....

Hi All! Not sure that this is a success story, perhaps more a 'we are still here and managing ok' story :) Havent been in for a while so thought i'd check in. To recap, my boy Toby (9yo greyhound) started on pheno in feb this year. At first we had good results and managed to get 7-8 weeks between se...

Re: Strange post ictal chewing...

Thanks for your replies :) Interesting - id never thought of feeding him afterwards. He tends to be very disoriented and has a crazy unsettled look for about an hour after seizing while he wanders so i guess i just assumed he wouldnt focus on food but maybe i will try it next time. I also noticed th...

Re: Golden Retriever with Epilepsy

Hi Molly, Im also reasonably new to seizures and medication. My large greyhound Toby had a one off seizure, then nothing for a year, then started having monthly seizures late last year. In late feb this year he had his first cluster, and thats when we started medication – phenobarb. I can TOTALLY ...

Re: Strange post ictal chewing...

p.s. checked in with the vet and apparently they are not particularly worried about the cord, just said to keep an eye out for changed behaviour... 20 hrs now and all is well, no more seizures either :)
