Re: New Here
Hi, Jaffles, Sorry to hear about your dilemma with Jaffa. It's heart-breaking to watch our four-legged babies go through such ordeals. Not to mention what it does to us as well. It is new for both concerned, so we are literally both facing uncharted waters/territories. I may have missed it, but I do...

Hi, Lynne, Placing a 10 year battle with Epilepsy under "success stories" is exactly that,...a success! It is such a horrible and draining disease for both our beloved pets, and the owners, too. As we can all attest to. I have known you, and have corresponded with you on many occasions for many year...

Re: Waiting For The Other Shoe
I really can't add much more to what Vivian just suggested. I know how you're feeling, though. We were 21-28 days between seizures, normally (all of them of the cluster variety). There were times that we'd make it to the 42 day mark. And, once even 2 1/2 months. Course, once it was 7 days. We felt t...

Re: 4 years later
What a wonderful post! Like you, I don't know how I would have dealt with this blasted disease if it wasn't for members that (sadly) have had to join CEN over the years. But, ever so grateful that they were there in times of need. As the old saying goes, it's one thing to hear/read about it, but it'...

Re: 28 Days!!
Excellent Colleen and Shiloh! Keep it up! I remember when we used to make it to the 28 day mark. We preferred to call it making it a month. It just sounded better. It confused our first vet at first, until she did the math.
Hoping for continued success!

R.I.P. Apache
My apologies for not posting that often the past year or so. There are two reasons for that. One, many of you own dogs that are on a cocktail of drugs that I am not familiar with, so I could be of no assistance with their side-effects. Secondly, I became somewhat superstitious. It almost came to the...

Re: Belgian Malinois with seizures
Hats off to you for adopting a handicapped pet! Sorry, though, that Zeva is now experiencing seizures. Our guy, Apache, has been primarily on one drug, and that is Phenobarbital. We went the Keppra route for a year, (as an addition to Pheno) and it didn't really work for him. Mind you, some have had...

Re: Increase in seizures with starting Phenobarbital?
In our case, that didn't happen. You must understand that it takes time for the medication to work. And, if this disease has taught me anything, expect the unexpected. Our guy has been going through this for almost 4 years now, and believe me, the patterns change. Just when you think you have a grip...

Re: Is there a Link Between Canine Epilepsy and Sinus Issues
Curious to find out what your vet had to say regarding Smudge's sinus issues and seizures. Our guy has always had clear nasal discharge, and gets quite congested frequently. He gets itchy on the left side of his head 'usually' prior to seizure activity.

Re: Just diagnosed... kind of
Hi, JyGra, The behaviour that Kirby is displaying right now could easily be from coming down from his recent seizure activity. However, he was just prescribed Phenobarbital, too. From what you posted, it doesn't sound like the ER gave him a 'loading dose', but you did give him an extra one. This as ...

Re: Cluster Seizure in Newly Adopted GS
Hi, TMeek, Sorry you had to join us. I, too, own a German Shepherd named Apache. He is currently 4 years and 3 months old. He was diagnosed with Epilepsy at the age of 1 1/2. We've had our shares of ups and downs, but we trudge along in hopes of one day, expanding his seizure-free runs to months rat...

Re: Hi, I'm a newbie, all help appreciated. Weak back legs..
Hi, Colliegirl32, The best way to root out hip dysplaysia is with x-rays. We've always taken them with our German Shepherds. They are not that expensive. Speaking of hind-end weakness, we recently started our guy on generic Keppra. It has lenghtened the time between seizures by three-fold. However, ...

Re: Here for my Kez <3
Hi, Dawn, Sorry to hear about Kez's seizing, but from the sounds of it, they are still far enough apart that he does not require any immediate medication. I like the way your vet is approaching this. As suggested, keep tabs on everything possible. As far as Kez being afraid after a seizure,...I woul...

Re: Suggestions needed !
Hi, Tanya, Like Barb mentioned, it would be ideal if you'd let us know what medications Austin has been prescribed, and/or is currently taking. Phenobarbital is 'usually' prescribed upon the onset as a first line of defence. We have had some success with it over the course of the first 2 years. Stil...

Re: Has anyone witnessed a 'seizure' like this.....
I agree with Carolyn. It could have been a seizure of some sort. Our guy has had some really strange ones in the past little while. And, the last time he had absolutely no post-ictal behaviour. It was if he blacked out for a couple of moments, and when he came to, he was perfectly fine. I even dared...
