Re: Side effects of potassium bromide?
Hi David, I think what Jen was referring to, is the fact the potassium bromide and phenobarbital can make our dogs act like they are hungry, when they aren't. They act like they are starving all the time. It makes them want to eat everything in site. And by doing so, they tend to find even things th...

Re: Should I switch dog food?
Cooper, I agree that Hills is not one of the best dog foods around. It sounds like all the licking of the paws raw, ear infections and bad skin came about from the food he was being fed prior to Hills, since you mentioned that it was full of corn. If you feel it is time to switch the food, I would g...

Re: Anyone reduce/stop Zonisamide?
Hi Trevor & Spencer,
We have been thinking of you all. How is Spencer doing with his reduction of Zonisamide?
So far, Sampson has been doing good with his 300 mg to 250 mg AM dosage. One more week and then we will try the PM dosage.

Re: Reducing dose of zonisamide
Hi Kelly and Kilroy,
Welcome aboard and sorry you have to be here.
My epi-Sampson had no problems with his appetite when put on Zonisamide.
However, one of the side effects of Zonisamide is decreased appetite.
I hope Kilroys appetite improves.
Good luck!

Re: Anyone reduce/stop Zonisamide?
Trevor & Spencer. I'm so sorry you all had to go through this.... I know it is heartbreaking and frustrating. I never thought I'd see the day that Sampson's seizures would finally stop happening so much and the severity of it. We have to know and be positive that the same will happen for Spencer. :)...

Re: Anyone reduce/stop Zonisamide?
Hi Trevor & Spencer, So sorry to hear that Spencer had a set back. :( I'm wondering why the Keppra is not being added as the Zoni is being reduced for Spencer? Use Keppra as an added AED instead of just for the 3 days for clusters. I have to tell you, the Keppra being added for Sampson has been a bl...

Anyone reduce/stop Zonisamide?
Hi all, I'm wanting to reduce and eventually stop the Zonisamide that I give to my epi Sampson. I think the drug is starting to take a toll on Sampson. Sampson weighs 40 pounds and takes 300mg of Zoni twice a day, along with Pb, KBr and Levetiracetam. He's been on Zoni for the last two and half year...

Hi Jessica & Billy, Welcome and sorry you had to join. We have all been there with the ups and downs. :( You don't say what dosage of Phenobarbital Billy is taken now. Have the therapeutic drug levels ever been checked on this drug? The desired therapeutic range most vets/neurologists try to stay wi...

Re: Mabel's Story
Hi Dawgnut, Welcome and sorry you had to join. Did you mention the symptoms to the vet? There could be something else going on with Mabel. If there is any way that you could record the episodes so the vet can see what is happening, it would help the vet to know if it is actually seizures or not. Som...

Re: New here, still fairly new to epilepsy I guess
Hi Giddy up & Riley, I am so sorry to hear what happened to Tex. I do hope that upping the meds do work for Riley. The medications can hurt the budget. Especially when another one has to be added on or it is a very expensive drug. If you are in the USA, try Costco Pharmacy. If you don't have one nea...

Hi Joe, Pheno does impact Zonisamide. Here's what another link stated. :) I don't want to keep sending you links, so I will just copy/paste the section. Zonisamide Zonisamide is a sulfonamide-derived antiepileptic drug introduced in the United States in 2000. Points of interest are as follows: 1. Th...

Hi Bonny & Mojo, Sorry to hear the Keppra XR doesn't seem to be working for Mojo. When part of the tablet came back up, did it look like it was a dissolved pill or part of a chewed pill? As I mentioned before, it cannot be chewed at all in order for it to be effective. As far as the blood work goesâ...

Re: Metacam causing seizures?
Hi!
It's possible. See the link copied below. One of the side effects listed is seizures. And interactions can occur if taken Phenobarbital.
