Re: Supplements for our epi pups
Libby is ALWAYS starving. All the food in the world is not enough for her :( I am very hard and strict here, I will not let her increase her weight as firstly its not good for her, and secondly it will affect what dosage she needs. Its taken 18 months to reach what I hope may be a more stable period...

Re: Supplements for our epi pups
I cant help you with the SAMe dosage, but just a thought have you tried feeding honey after a seizure? Libby used to have really bad really long post-ictal symptoms. It started slowly but increased to 4hrs plus. I fed her a honey sandwich after a fit (yes, bread I know but at the time needs must and...

Re: Challenging behaviors since beginning Pheno Barb and Kbr
Hi! I really feel for you! We are suffering with both your points, accidents in the house and food theft to an insane level, and have been for 8 months now. The wetting in the house came thick and fast after a drug level increase. She was squatting where ever she was every half hour. Of course I had...

Re: What does everyone feed?
i dont often like posting the good news, because when I do its often then followed closely by bad, but.... lets give it a go and hope for the best! My girl was feed on Purina Pro Plan (I am in the UK) we were struggling to control her fits for over a year, we had almost settled on one every 3.5wks, ...

Re: Troubles with Excessive Urination
I feel for you, I have the same problem :( At first my girl couldn't go more than half an hour! Now it is up to 4 hours, so if we are both at work all day we come home to one accident, and now always by the backdoor. I still hope everyday that the time will keep incresing, but I'm not sure it will. ...

Re: Has anyone used Gabapentene to control seizures?
Mine did extremely badly on this drug. She didn't fit on the 2 weeks she was on it, but for the 2 weeks her side affects were so servere the vet pulled her off them. I have heard that others have done very well on it, and what suits one dog rarely seems to suit another so I wish all the best for you.

Re: Taurine
Libby has just been put onto Taurine after the acupuncture has failed and we cant increase her meds any further. It is comforting to see it has helped other dogs. I tryy to only change one thing at a time so that I can see what does and doesnt work, however this time I did change her to a grain free...

Re: Very Worried Doggy Mom
Hi, Just wanted to add my support. We've been coping with this for a year and still havent found the right balance yet. We are now more realistic and are aware that 21-28 days will be the best we ever get, its just finding something that keeps her there. I cant offer any helpful advise other than yo...

Re: Libby just had a cluster
Hi, I am sorry to hear of your boy as well. It must be so difficult to have circumstances going on round you that you know will induce seizures, but that you can do nothing about. It is only the second cluster Libby has had, the last was 4 months ago (many normal seizures in that time), its just so ...

Libby has just had a cluster
She is on the highest tolerable Pb level, a large dose of bromide, acupuncture and gabaptine really had some extremely nasty side effects on her, even after 2 weeks. This is a nasty thing sometimes.

Re: New to the Forum and new to Epilepsy
I'm sorry, I must have read your post wrong. Well it seems the meds are helping. I find the behaviour changes the most distressing thing about epilepsy. Drugs do help (although can cause side affects in the short term) you just have to give it time. Libby was really bad at first, but she did improve...

Re: New to the Forum and new to Epilepsy
Hi Orli, I feel your pain. Just wanted to say my girl exhibited the same behaviour that your girl is having in the evenings when she first went on the drugs. It is a side affect that normally lasts 10 days, unfortunately with my girl it was 3 weeks, she really came down hard with it. As destressing ...

Re: Awful disease!
I really feel your stress, I' there right now! Meds arent controling my dog as the should, so I have turned to acupuncture as well. My vet does it by laser instead of needles, so we are meant to only ever need 3 sessions a year at most. Libby was fitting every 3 weeks or so when we had the first ses...
