Re: Life after epilepsy
Is there life after epilepsy? Yes and no. 1 April 2011 my Pereg had her first GM, Four years to the date on 1 April 2015 she had her last GM and my wonderful vet came at 1am to give her peace. She was only six-years and three-months old. I could not bear to be without "My little dog, a heartbeat at ...

Was it a success?
I had to have my beloved girl euthanised on 1 April 2015, four years to the day since she had her first GM. But she had four years of happy life in between those horrid GMs until she told me enough. And my wonderful vet came here at 1am to give her peace. Was that a success or did the success being ...

Re: Supplements for our epi pups
I have just had notification of a reply to this thread, a long time since I started it! Things changed drastically following my last post - Pereg's Grand Mals getting more and more frequent, and she was clustering most times even though her Pb was slowly increased. Following a very bad time last Sep...

Re: Increasing medication
Apologies for not responding to you earlier Carolyn. I believe that Ram will be back on Sunday and I will have to try and find someone to take us to the surgery - there is no way I can manage to take her by myself in a taxi. I have to discuss all options regarding Pereg's medication and prefer to wa...

Re: Increasing medication
Melynda - My vet can do all basic blood tests at the clinic but he cannot do Pb levels, but he can get them checked at a main lab. This he will do when he takes blood after Pereg has been on Pb for six months. His main aim is to keep her seizures to just one a month, which we thought we had done af...

Re: Increasing medication
She had another really bad seizure nearly 2½ hours ago - only an hour or so since I had given her her evening dose. This time she could not get up - kept falling against things every time she tried to get up. Very bad when she did get up, crashing into everything and falling, getting up and stagger...

Re: Increasing medication
I am not sure if Pereg's thyroid levels were checked - it was my suggestion that those levels be checked together with liver and kidney function following the six months of medication. Probably because I am hypothyroid. I had thought of that when her coat started looking dull but once I had added th...

Re: Increasing medication
There is no way I could get Pereg to the Veterinary Hospital here - as far as I know there is only one where there is a neurologist and all the necessary facilities, and I would not be able to get there. In addition it would be totally financially impossible. The thing to remember also is what could...

Re: Increasing medication
Pereg probably weighs around 42lb now if not more so I do not think 50mg BID will be too much. Dr Ram is on holiday at the moment so I spoke with Cheli, the other vet this morning. She checked the dosage for Pereg's weight and reckoned it should be a maximum of 60mg/day. I do not know what chart she...

Increasing medication
Pereg is back to having Grand Mal seizures every 14 days and I have just managed to get my Vet to agree to me increasing her Pb to 50mg BID from 50mg morning and 25mg evening. According to the Vet the charts used here show that Pereg was already on the maximum daily dose of Pb for her weight. She wa...

Re: What does everyone feed?
I have been tweaking Pereg's diet for quite a while now and I think I have finally gotten to what suits her. Unfortunately it is not stopping her seizures but is making her a happier dog. After her Pb was increased she went 7 weeks and 2 days seizure free. Then five weeks. And then another one last ...

Re: Supplements for our epi pups
Many thanks Melynda. I can get 200mg and 400mg tablets of SAMe. Would it be better to give Pereg 200mg BID or 400 once a day? I would appreciate your advice on that as soon as you are able to respond, so that I can put in another order.
Thank you again for all your help.
