Re: Speckles 2007-09-28 to 2018-05-30

Thank you Lynne. Throughout her life I always dreaded having to make the final decision to put her down and knew it would haunt me no matter how sick she seemed - i never expected she would leave us unexpectedly like this and we wouldn't even be there. It breaks my heart. Looking back at old photos ...

Speckles 2007-09-28 to 2018-05-30

We lost our baby girl Speckles this morning. She started seizures around age 2 and we spent several years dealing with horrible clusters and nearly put her to sleep several times during that stretch. About 5 years ago we finally got her seizures under control with high doses of Zonisimide, some Phen...

Re: New MemberLooking for Information

That's horrible. Do you have any other vets nearby that you could switch to? Hopefully you can get your vet to write you a prescription for valium (or one of the comparable drugs). Even if they don't have it in stock or claim they can't get it, you might be able to get it filled at a compounding pha...

Re: Speckles is doing well

Good to hear Eley did well with the sedation and procedure. Thanks for the info. February is 'dental month' at our vet and they give discounts for cleanings so we will probably try to schedule something then for Speck. Side note - we took our mastiff Thor in for surgery on his leg this week, but aft...

Re: Not Seizures, but brain tumor

Very sorry to hear about the tumor diagnosis, but glad she is doing well since the cortisone shot.

Best of luck to you.

Re: Need feedback re comparison of Zonisamide and Keppra

I read very good things about Keppra from many people. Unfortunately it did not help our pup. After trying 5 or 6 different meds, the final action that controlled our pup for the last 1.5 years was an increase of her Zonisamide at night (when most of her seizures occur). She is either at or slightly...

Re: Scared new member with questions

Very sorry to hear about your loss and the turn your pup has taken. A journal is very important. Glad you're working on that. I wrote down everything when our ordeal began. My pup was sensitive to the weather... overcast or stormy days were more likely to cause her to have seizures. She is well cont...

Re: Speckles is doing well

Colleen - very encouraging to hear your niece's mastiff recovered well, thanks. Roxanne - thank you for the feedback about the teeth cleaning. I am very nervous about it, but it needs to be done. Thor is scheduled for surgery next week and by all accounts it will be a very long recovery. It's sad th...

Re: Speckles is doing well

Actually, Colleen, I feel a bit more at ease about the dental work after hearing from you and Lynne :D . Many thanks. I had no idea of how risky it was for epileptic dogs to be sedated and it seems you both have had very limited issues in your experiences. I'm still pretty nervous though. Thor (our ...

Re: Speckles is doing well

That's really great that Shiloh is such a good dog :) Speckles really doesn't like it when I try to brush her teeth. I spoke to the vet yesterday and he said I'm probably not doing much good at this point and it's stressing her out, so I'm going to stop trying until after we get her a professional c...

Re: Speckles is doing well

Thank you both for your kind words and for sharing your experiences :). I'm encouraged by hearing that you both have had your pups sedated with minimal issues. We're waiting for her liver and thyroid bloodwork results... if they come back good, I'll have a more serious talk with the vet about my opt...

Speckles is doing well

I have been away from the forum for quite some time but I wanted to share an update about our experiences and ask a question. My Pomeranian, Speckles was in horrible trouble for almost 3 years (ages 2 through 5). Progressively worse and worse clusters to the point where she was having 50+ seizures p...

Re: Diamond Back Drugs Feedback

Hi Joe, Regarding splitting your tablets accurately: (I’m not sure what your dosing & frequency is – had a quick look through your older posts to no avail) (Can’t find much useful info on Felbamate here in Australia either). Is it possible to crush your tablets to a powder (like pill splitter...
