Re: moving on!!!!!
Hi Nick, I understand how you are feeling, completely grief stricken. I have lost dogs before (and moved on to new dogs quickly) but loosing Ben has been so much harder to deal with. I am not getting another dog for a while. I felt that Ben was such a perfect dog that anything else I would resent. H...

Re: Scary new ground
Hi, Sorry you have had to join us. I will never forget the first time I saw Ben having a seizure, so, so scary. The way you feel is exactly the same way I felt, constantly on edge, waiting for the next one. Even the other day I heard a bang and jumped thinking it was Ben having a seizure. Unfortunat...

Re: seizures getting WORSE, now I'm trying a new combo!
Hi Nick, I'm sorry that you had to say goodbye to Fleur. It sounds like you took her as far as she could go. It's times like this (although so hard) that I'm glad we have the option to euthanise, in our cases it was the kindest thing to do. I dont know what else to say to you...... Everyone grieves ...

Re: seizures getting WORSE, now I'm trying a new combo!
Hi Nick, This is so sad, a few of our epi dogs have passed over the last few weeks. I'm so sorry that you might be faced with this decision. I had Ben put down about five weeks ago. We started the day OK, then he had one seizure, then another, then another, I lost count in the end, they were happeni...

Re: Severe Ataxia and Weakness
I'm so, so sorry to hear about Gauge, you did the right thing. I lost Ben about a month ago and also had him for only nine months, it's amazing how they worm their way in to your heart so quickly. Actually the bond I had with Ben formed quicker than any of my other dogs. There have been a few things...

Re: Desperate for advice...
Hi Sarah,
Youre doing great, I'm thinking of you and Toby. All you can do is take it day by day. I'm at the beach too (Point Lonsdale) for my first visit down here without Ben. He used to love it here. The beach is a great place to rejuvenate. Enjoy.

Re: Breeders
Thank you all for your responses. It seems as though friends, family and this forum is a place we can get support, as from what I can see, our breeders let us (and our dogs) down. I have been thinking about why epilepsy in dogs is such a red letter with breeders. The only thing I can come up with is...

Breeders
Since we are talking so much about breeders in the previous thread: Lost my BC to Seizures last week, I still want to learn more I thought I would post a new thread on my experience and MAJOR disappointment. After researching and researching breeders with a fine toothed comb I found Ben's breeder. I...

Re: Desperate for advice...
I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through this Sarah. As if the seizures themselves arent bad enough those side effects can just zap the zest for life out of our dogs (especially when there is a change made). Something I realised when I had to say goodbye to Ben was that this illness does take...

Re: anybody with helpful advice APPRECIATED!!!!
Hi Nick, I was faced with this decision a few weeks ago, so, so sad. I was in exactly the same place as you and the best thing I did was ask my vet (who was wonderful). My vets' opinion was going to be unbiased so I knew it would be the right one. I didnt want Ben to think I was giving up on him jus...

Goodbye to Ben
Ben went into status tonight and unfortunately we had to put him to sleep. He was going to be 1 in a few weeks. I just cant believe that he is not here anymore. I already miss him so much. This awful, awful illness took the best dog I have ever had from me- i hate it! Ben was the most perfect dog an...

Rectal Valium
Hi I was wondering if any of you could help me with this.... As part of Ben's epi management plan I wanted to have some rectal valium available. My vet has phoned many places and can only find the following... A pack of 6 rectal valuim suppositories can be made up at a cost of $100 but it has a used...

Re: Epileptic Bullmastiff Puppy.
Hi. Sorry to hear about Hector (I love that name for a Bullmastiff). My pup was only 7months old when he had his first seizure, so sad to see a pup behave this way. But, you have come to the right place, this forum is a life saver. He seems to be on a pretty low dose of drugs so what was said earlie...

Re: New here
Sound like you have been through a lot.
I've just got some rectal valium for my dog, how quickly do you have to administer it for it to be effective? How effective has it been for you?

Re: New to this - any advice welcome
Sorry to hear that you have had to endure seizures too, but you have come to the right place. I'm only new to this as well but I have learned to so much about canine epilepsy. If I were you (and I guess I am in a way) my first priority would be to stop the seizures asap. The more seizures your dog h...
