Re: canine epileptoid cramping syndrome and medication
Hi Jaro, I have a very similar experience with my Papillon, Austin. Austin started having these seizure-like episodes after waking up from anesthesia when he had his teeth cleaned. I have a thread about it here - http://forums.cvm.missouri.edu/cenbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2511 These are videos of Austi...

You have given so many people on here SO much information and help on here. Please be strong and remember the happy times...he's running free now with ...

Valium's effects on behavior
Unfortunately Austin had 3 small seizures last night :( We were doing really well, but I guess some "speed bumps" are expected. The seizures happened after he was at work with me all day, so I'm thinking it's too stressful for him to be there all day. He had a seizure at work with me last time too. ...

Re: Higher Risk with Unneutered Males?
Interesting topic! I absolutely think females in heat can trigger epi dogs to have seizures. Austin is neutered and has been since 9 months, but always still shows interest in girl dogs (in heat or not). Austin was put on his Zonisamide on April 28 of this year. I took him to work with me in mid Jun...

Re: Flea Treatments
I'm very picky about what my dogs get as well. One of Austin's very first episodes happened shortly after applying Frontline PLUS. I applied regular Frontline with no problems for years, but I refuse to use the PLUS on them anymore. I work at a vet and we have tons of dogs use the Frontline PLUS wit...

Re: Meltdown in Petsmart
Hi there :) To be honest I haven't worried about Rosemary extract in my dogs' food, so I don't know which foods exclude them. The top dog foods available from Petsmart in my opinion are: Wellness (any variety) Welless Core (this is grain free and a great food), Innova Blue Buffalo Nutro natural choi...

Re: Challenging behaviors since beginning Pheno Barb and Kbr
Sorry you're having such a hard time! First thing that comes to mind for me is has she had her urine checked for cystitis or a urinary tract infection? Peeing in the house ALWAYS warrants a urinalysis in my mind. Second, as I'm sure you know, pheno and kbro can both increase water intake so this wil...

Welcome to the board! I have a Papillon with focal seizures and he is on Zonisamide too. He's about 9 lbs and on 50 mg twice a day. I think you're one of the only other people I've seen on here with tiny dogs

Re: Zonisamide is a miracle drug for my Papillon!
Hi Lauren, It breaks my heart watching Sampson go through grand mals, let alone if he was awake and having a seizure like Austin. It was breaking my heart watching your tapes. I wonder if Austin is able to feel what is going on. I had a dog a few years ago that had seizures and all he would do is g...

Re: Zonisamide - chewing pill
My aussie started zonisamide on May 26, 2011. The directions state not to crush or chew the pills; however, every once in a while I haven't gotten the pill far enough into her mouth and she's chewed the pill. How big a problem is this? Are the directions not to crush or chew because the pills are t...

It is impossible for me to be home or with him 24/7... Would I even know if he had one if I wasn't home? Would he be ok? What do you do when you have to leave your pups alone? I used to make myself nuts about leaving Kiya, unfortunately I have no choice but to hope & pray for the best. I looked int...

What does everyone feed?
So what does everyone here feed their dogs? How often and how much? Has the elimination of any types of food or ingredients caused a decrease in seizures? Have you found any particular ingredient made them worse? I feed a variety of kibble mixed with canned food to all my dogs. I usually stick with ...

Re: Zonisamide is a miracle drug for my Papillon!
ZumiePaps, I watched your tapes. I am no veterinary or MD, but it looks like it could be some form of a seizure. Of course, most people think of convulsions when they think of seizures. Not all seizures cause a person or canine to go into convulsions. A seizure may involve all the skeletal muscles ...

Re: Zonisamide is a miracle drug for my Papillon!
Hi Lauren My medical training was for humans, not animals, therefore I am not a veterinarian, but one thing from your videos appears obvious to me, and that is the fact that Austin is not epileptic. Therefore to come onto a Canine Epilepsy Forum and proudly announce "Zonisamide is a miracle drug fo...
