Busy Bones

My dog Weiner had been doing well on his Phenobarbital, we recently increased the dose because even though we were seeing good results he was not in the therapeutic range. On Saturday evening my husband and I were watching a movie and we handed out Busy Bones to the pups. A few hours later Weiner ha...

Re: New diagnosis

Lots of meds have to sort of "build up" in the blood, before they have a steady level that becomes therapeutic. I know phenobarbital increases thirst and urination, it may be a common side effect of anti-epileptics. Research is great, its important to be informed. I think its a good idea to keep you...

Re: New diagnosis

I am sorry you are here and have to go through this with your friend. It is a difficult and sometimes frightening time, I can understand. I do not have experience with the specific drug your guy is on. However, my pup is on Phenobarbital and he was a zombie for a few days too, eventually getting a b...

Re: Medical alert tag

Thanks for the info Trevor and Spencer!
Weiner seems to be doing better. Had his levels taken recently and he is under the therapeutic range of the pheno, so we're in the process of upping his dose.

Medical alert tag

It occurred to me that in the event my dog, Weiner, who has epilepsy gets out, he aught to have a tag indicating his condition or at least that he needs to be taken to a vet ASAP. He already has my # and "REWARD," on his tag, he is also chipped and has a tag with all the chip info on it. Still, I wo...

Hyperactivity

My dog, Weiner, seems to be handling the phenobarbital treatment fairly well. I've found a new way to get him to take his pill that works well, and no more seizures that I have seen. (Can't watch him 24/7 unfortunately). At first he was pretty sedated and lethargic, but over the last week, he's beco...

New challenges

So my dog has been diagnosed with epilepsy and we've been going through a number of challenges. He's on phenobarbital 2X a day. He was at first, as expected, "drunk," confused, and often fearful. He has come out of that, and begun acting more like himself, but now we are facing a new challenge. He h...

Re: This is awful

No luck getting him to eat carrots or green beans just yet. He eats around them. My dogs usually get one meal a day, I will try to start with 2 meals a day, dinner and breakfast. I am going to try giving him a kong with peanut butter in it at night to keep him quiet in his crate. (he was whiney and ...

This is awful

The phenobarbital seems to be controlling his seizures and shaking, I haven't seen him seize in over a week. He is coming around personality wise, but now the hunger has begun. I got home from work at about 12pm today and he has been whining and barking non stop, looking for food. I don't know what ...

Re: New here

He's coming around personality wise, but now the constant hunger has set in and that is it's own challenge. He cant seem to settle down, he's just running around and around looking for food. Going to try to do 2 or 3 meals a day, and maybe add in some carrots and green beans.

I think I figured out why my dog hates me...

Starting a week or so ago, my dog began behaving very differently. He had a major seizure episode, but recovered almost completely. After a couple of days he was very close to his previous "normal." Then he started shaking and behaving confused and erratic. It got progressively worse. Now, he runs f...

Re: New here

I know I seem totally selfish and winey about how this affecting ME, but its more than that. I miss my dog and I am really not sure he's happy. He just seems confused and afraid so much. I'm hoping it will get better, because I hate to have him scared so much. It is so having be afraid of me when we...

New here

Hello everyone, I'm Michelle. Mother of Attila/Weinerdog/Tubey. He's around 5 years old, he's a dachshund/pit bull terrier. My husband and I adopted him around 3 years ago. So here's my story; The week prior to Labor Day weekend (Tuesday) I received a phone call. (Luckily I'm currently out of work s...
