Re: Thanks for the late night company
Aww...Petey was such a cutie-pie! Just wanted to express my sympathy, and to say that I know how difficult a decision it was to make, having been there myself. As much as it hurts to lose a pet, especially one you've had such a difficult road with, sometimes we just have to do what's right for them ...

Re: R.I.P. Apache
Brian,
I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a tough thing to do, to let them go, but sometimes it just can't be helped. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Re: When to let go????
Whew, that's a tough one. Throughout Kip's battle with epilepsy, my husband and I talked about it over and over and decided that we'd know if and when it was time. Our vet and our neurologist, without ever actually telling him it was time for us to let him go, would say things like "No one would bla...

Re: New here
Chris - Tell Antoinette that it WILL get better with time. I was heartbroken, and cried every day for weeks. I felt so sad and depressed, and found it more difficult than when I had other pets pass away. There's something about caring for an epi-pup that really intensifies your bond with them. It wa...

Re: Our collie cross has just been diagnosed with epilepsy
Charlotte - That's so interesting that so many vets said walking them was a no-no. Somehow, I can't see how the incessant pacing around the house for a couple of hours after a seizure lets their brain rest. I think they need to come live for a few months with a dog who has seizures and then make the...

Re: New here
Hi again Chris - I've been thinking about Miss Spunky today, and the story of her liver failure and blood platelet issues. I wanted to share part of my own dog Kip's story, as it might shed a little light on Spunky's rapid decline. Kip suffered a rare side -effect to phenobarb, causing bone marrow s...

Re: Our collie cross has just been diagnosed with epilepsy
Charlotte - I've never heard of the "no walking" rule after a seizure. In fact, we used to deliberately walk Kip after a seizure because of the horrible post-ictal pacing that he always did. It was our attempt to give him a purpose to pace, and it really was one of the only things I can actually say...

Re: New here
Chris - I'm so sorry to hear the news about Miss Spunky. She was such a little doll! Losing a beloved pet to epilepsy is truly heart-breaking. I hope you and your wife will take comfort in knowing that you did everything you could possibly do to help her, and I'd say you certainly went above and bey...

Re: My story ... so far
Chris - Well, that just sucks that looters are beating you to your own stuff. Guess we shouldn't be surprised, but still... Oh my, that sounds like quite the code violation going on there. I'm surprised they let the house change ownership without an electrical inspection. But I'm sure those laws var...

Re: Newbie
Colleen - Am I right that Shiloh is no longer on Pb? We had to take Kip off Pb due to a life-threatening side effect, but I got to wondering if a dose of Pb right after a seizure would be OK. Maybe ask your vet about that? Just an idea, since Lynne reminded me how well that works sometimes. An extra...

Re: Newbie
Colleen - one thing we used to do to get Kip to settle down was to take him for a long walk after a seizure. He was SO keyed up after he'd seize, that it seemed that walking him gave him a way to kind of "reset" his brain. Instead of aimlessly walking around the house frantically, he'd be on a missi...
