Sudden Onset Ataxia
Hi everyone - I'm beyond happy to report that Bailey has been seizure-free since NOVEMBER! Prior to then, she would cluster, with up to ten grand mals at a time - always requiring the ER to stop them. So, I am beyond happy :). However....suddenly, severe ataxia has reared it's head. We haven't upped...

Re: Pheno and Keppra Not Working
Hi MasonsMommy -- I was the original poster and I'm happy to say that we've been able to find ALOT of relief! Keppra ended up not working for us at all. But, my vet added Potassium Bromide and it made all the difference. We've had only two cluster episodes in the past year, and when we do, we just u...

Annnnd, they're back :(.
So, it's been nearly a year, and - with the exception of two or three small focals - Bailey has been seizure-free! However, they are now back worse than ever. I recently moved from Philly to Chicago, and while I am getting settled, my parents have been watching her. They have been following the "sei...

Holistic Methods
Just out of curiosity...has anyone tried any kind of holistic remedies? I was looking into acupuncture, but it seems to be pretty pricey. However, if people have had good results with it, it may absolutely be worth it. Or do any kind of supplements seem to be beneficial?

Having Someone Else Watch Your Epi Dog...
Hi all! Bailey has been seizure-free for nearly five months, as well as been successfully weened off Keppra! Hooray! My question is this...I'm moving from Philly to Chicago in a few weeks. I'm a single, twenty-something, and like all of you, my sick pup has basically drained my bank account,...and m...

Licking/Gulping/Coughing....Seizure Activity?
Hi all -- After being on pheno, kbr, and even weaning off of Keppra, Bailey has been seizure-free (to my knowledge) for over four months. This is an incredible relief, and I'm happy to finally be able to build up my savings account again... However, I do have a concern, and a thought that perhaps sh...

Weening off Keppra
We've been seizure-free almost 4 months (yay!!!!) since adding Potassium Bromide to our existing regime of 90mg Pheno x2 a day and 750mg x2 a day of Keppra. My vet believes the Keppra isn't doing much (as do I), so I'm in the process of weening her off it...but I'm terrified. Yesterday was the first...

Coming home to a mess...
So, I'm not sure what to think happened... As of exactly a month ago, I have added 1.5mg of KBr to Bailey's regime of 750mg Keppra twice a day and about 100 mg of Pheno twice a day. She's been totally fine. I come back from work, early even, to find that she has gone to the bathroom several times in...

Potassium Bromide
I added KBr a few days ago to my dog's already insane medicine regime. I went on vacation right after so I didn't experience any of her initial effects from it...but now that I'm back home...she is dry heaving a bunch, restless, extremely lethargic, stumbling around, breathing heavy, hacking (but no...

I am so, so sorry to hear that. I get so sad anytime I think about life without Bailey, so I can imagine that emptiness. Thanks so much for all of your insight - it really does mean so much to me.

If you didn't find any relief with Keppra or Zonisamide, what did help your pup? I'm just afraid to get to the point where nothing works...

Re: Annnnd, the seizures are still coming...
Yes, I'm starting to think Keppra isn't what I'm looking for. I was unable to get to the vet today as she is booked, but she increased Bailey's night dosage to 750, so now we are at 1500mg of Keppra a day...plus the Pheno. If this doesn't work, I think I'd like to try Zonisamide. Does anyone have be...

I need some relief...and some hope.
I posted on this board about two weeks ago. At that time, my almost 4 year old puppy had been diagnosed with epilepsy for about a year, had just had about her fourth set of severe cluster seizures, and had just had her meds increased to 1.5 pills of 64.8mg Pheno twice a day, and 1250mg of Keppra (75...

Re: Annnnd, the seizures are still coming...
Gave her the first 10mg suppository....then about 10 minutes later she had another petit mal :(. I wasn't able to get another suppository in her rectally during the seizure, and after, she wasn't too keen on me sticking it up there...but I eventually got it in her. Gave her a second dose of ice crea...
