Re: I Really Really Hate this Disease!

We lost the battle this morning. I do know we did everything possible for her and in the end made the compassionate decision. I was able to hold her in my arms and smell her Frito scent that was so Maggie. I believe in my heart that she has crossed into the Summerlands and was greeted by our Riley R...

I Really Really Hate this Disease!

After 30 days, her longest interval ever Maggie had 7 of the most violent seizures ever in less than an hour. We took her in to our ER Vet and they had to give her Propfol to try and break the cycle. They are going to keep her under until early morning and then bring her around to see if the cycle i...

Re: New member with questions about Zonisamide

Welcome – I am sorry you have to be here, but you will find great support from the people on this board. Maggie is on Zonisamide, but in her case, it was the second drug we tried after starting her out on Phenobarbital. She has had side effects after each the addition of each new drug (she is curr...

Re: Kieran's New Journey with Epilepsy

Welcome and sympathy for having to be here, though you will find a wealth of information and support. I am new to this disease also, less than a year with Maggie's seizures. There are many here with much more experience and you will find their wisdom invaluable. Maggie too started out with scary, sc...

Re: Valium

Colleen My heart goes out to you-I think we have all been in that place where this disease and all that comes with it stretches before us with no relief, let alone a happy end in sight. We are getting Maggie's liquid Valium through a compounder. -I don't know if that is an option. We do have to have...

Re: Newbie and seeking help and answers

Jennifer

I am so sorry. I agree with Colleen, it is good to know the why but heartbreaking to know it too. Maggie has been on Keppra for a few months now and I haven't seen anything significant from it in the way of side effects.

I hope what time you have with Daisy it good time.

Last night the glass looked half-empty

We had an interesting evening with Maggie last night...for hours she paced, stopped, stared, tremored, trembled and at times look as if a seizure was going to start any second. I spend hours on the floor, calling quietly to her when she was in "stop/stare", stroking her gently and generally keeping ...

Is the glass half-full or half-empty?

Is the glass half-full or half empty? Maggie had another set of seizures yesterday. The bad news is – only 12 days since the last set, the good news – that is one day longer than the last interval so we had infinitesimal progress in lengthening the intervals. The other good news is that both sei...

Re: Newbie and seeking help and answers

I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am to hear of your struggle. Only you can decide if it is worth doing a CT Scan to rule out a tumor. I think I would, but that's just me and to be honest, we didn't with Maggie but that was because our vet and neurologist said they were pretty sure given everyth...

Re: Last Ditch Attempt

Colleen I haven't yet said to you how sorry I am about your loss of Izzie. We all know what a heartbreak it is to lose one of our babies and doubly so when is so unexpected. Hoping you find some peace and healing. And I know what you mean about the credit card bills! Every time I think we are going ...

Re: Newbie and seeking help and answers

I am not knowledgable enough about this disease to offer you any concrete suggestions for your Daisy but I did want to let you know I sympathize and empathize with you. The journey to find some answers and a semblance of control over this disease is painful and oftentimes lonely. I send every wish t...

Re: Last Ditch Attempt

I am continually amazed (and perhaps I shouldn't be) at how treatments for this disease have to so tailored to each individual dog. There is no one protocol, no magic bullet drug...I guess that is wishful thinking. I am so glad to hear of each small/large success in getting the drugs exactly right, ...

Re: Last Ditch Attempt

Maggie is currently taking the max dosages for her weight of Phenobarbital, KeppraER and Zonisamide. We have nowhere to go with those three. Her neurologist has had some luck with Gabapentin, but she is not overly optimistic with Maggie, as she has been resistant to good control with everything we h...

Re: Last Ditch Attempt

Thanks Lynne. Maggie is getting rectal Valium (at a fairly aggressive level), Clorezapate and an extra dose of Pb when she has a seizure. There does not seem to be a time window for her seizures and according to her neurologist she is at max dosage levels for everything. We did the first dose of the...
