Re: The Mighty Roscoe

Hey SM, I did ask the vet about weaning him off Keppra, and he said maybe eventually but for now since he's been struggling so much lately, they thought it best to get all the support for him that they could. We found a local source for Keppra that isn't too bad, financially. It's the Percorten shot...

Re: The Mighty Roscoe

Hey all... things were good for awhile but in November, Roscoe was diagnosed with Addisons Disease. His medication costs have skyrocketed. Percorten shots every 25 days, daily Prednisone, and an increased Keppra dose. Unfortunately I think we fall into the group of dogs that Keppra stops working for...

Re: Is the glass half-full or half-empty?

I don't care whether it's half full or half empty, so long as what's in it is Jack Daniels. I could use a drink after all this!

Re: Newbie and seeking help and answers

Roscoe is on Keppra and for the most part I haven't noticed any effects on his balance or anything at all. He is a little more twitchy, but that's about it.

Re: Valium

I am right there with you. I was just sitting here crying. I feel horrible, and I know I'm catastrophizing this, but he's acting funny again today, like maybe he's having small focal seizures, and I keep thinking... where am I going to draw the line? I know that I don't have the fortitude to go thro...

Re: lots of questions

I think you are doing the right thing in moving to the conventional meds. I do believe that, to almost every illness and disorder we suffer, there is probably an underlying cause related to environment, or mineral/vitamin deficiency, or something of that sort. But because we don't know what it is, w...

Re: 3 and a half months in.

Roscoe had his first seizure after his annual vaccinations all at once, too. I don't know what I was thinking... I had been very good about trying to space those out, but we were gearing up to leave on vacation and have two more planned soon and I just said, for convenience, to go ahead and give the...

Re: Newbie and seeking help and answers

Jennifer, Just a word of advice from someone who thinks she's a lot like you sound! When Roscoe was first diagnosed, I went bananas doing online research about his new condition. I read some real horror stories, and scared and depressed the pee out of myself. I am someone who likes information, and ...

Re: Is the glass half-full or half-empty?

Sometimes I think I see it with Roscoe. He'll just sort of 'fog out' like he's staring at something I can't see, and he'll stand still, but wobble back and forth... when he does that, I try to engage him in something, because I'm worried he's about to seize. I'll feed him a little treat, or play wit...

Re: The Mighty Roscoe

Just thought I'd pop in and give an update... We still have Roscoe on Levetiracetam ER, 1000 mg at 7:30 AM and 1000 mg at 7:30 PM. This time, he went 33 days without an incident. He had what seemed to be an odd pre-ictal event this morning, now that I look back on it... though I'm not sure if that's...

Re: Seizure after 15 months seizure free

I'm late to this thread, but I just wanted to say that my dog had his first seizure a day after coming home from the vet with all his yearly vaccinations, which was also two days after his monthly Heartgard Plus. I will never do that again. We'd always done it that way, so I just didn't think about ...

Re: The Mighty Roscoe

One question... after his seizure today, he doesn't seem to want to eat. He drank plenty, but does not seem tempted by his dinner or cookies or anything. Is that normal? Also, I presume that just because he had a seizure I shouldn't move up his Keppra dose... I should keep it at the same time. Right...

Re: Epilepsy or something else

Yes - there are several different kinds of seizures, and what you are describing sounds like a complex partial seizure: From http://www.vetneurochesapeake.com/index.php?page=questions-about-dog-seizures: Complex Partial Seizures (Psychomotor or Behavioral): These seizures are associated with bizarre...

Re: The Mighty Roscoe

Well... we made it... 23 days seizure free on Keppra XR. I was actually starting to hope that his seizure was circumstantial, just a fluke. I'm sure everyone goes through that. I was consciously reminding myself, as soon as I'd think that, that that probably wasn't true, but some small part of me di...

Re: The Mighty Roscoe

Just wanted to post a quick update... Yesterday was Roscoe's one-week anniversary for his first and second (and last) seizure. Since putting him on Levetiracetam ER, he has had no incidents (at least not that we know of). He is energetic, playful, has his usual appetite, and is back to annoying the ...
