Re: How does your dog react when taking Keppra medication

Our boxer is on all of that medication and more. Keppra was the last drug they added to his regimen. It was our final act of God. Although it took some time for Apollo's body to get used to all the meds, it has been 2 years since we added Keppra. He still gets his monthly (or biweekly at times) seiz...

Re: Using Ice Packs before/during seizure

I fully agree with Lynne, it is definitely worth a try. I have a pint of vanilla ice cream in the freezer, and everyone in my household knows it is just for Apollo. :)

Re: forgot the heartbreak

I know that Apollo has "cluster" seizures because that is what the vet told us when he had a very bad episode back in July. Apollo's are monthly almost to the day. Thankfully the one he had on Saturday, was a one and done deal. No clusters. The ice pack definitely does work for our boy, but I have h...

Re: forgot the heartbreak

Thanks for your response...3 minutes is so long, I would be crying myself watching that. Apollo didn't always have the clusters, he started them after my second baby was born (so about 2 years after he was diagnosed) -- I think anxiety and stress is one of Apollo's "triggers" .. Hang tight to you! I...

Re: Using Ice Packs before/during seizure

Totally agree. Once Apollo starts, I make sure he is okay and wont fall or hit anything to hurt himself, then run to the freezer to grab his ice packs. Placing them on his spine absolutely cuts the seizure down and brings him out of it quicker. Also, once he comes out of it, I grab a spoonful of van...

forgot the heartbreak

Hey all! Things have been quiet lately (thankfully) on our side with Apollo...we would experience the usual monthly seizure (and it happens like clockwork between the 10-15th every month - I was checking the moon cycle to see if his have anything to do with that) ... Since July, that monthly seizure...

Re: Desperate for help facing euthanasia

I am so sorry to hear this ~ and like you my, husband and I have faced this multiple times in the past year. Apollo thankfully has been able to bounce back for the most part thus far. His meds have been added, then adjusted, then some taken away ~ it is such a cat and mouse game unfornately with thi...

Re: Missed dose

Hey! I can't help you in terms of missing a dose and the effects ~ but I have been known to not always be around at the exact time Apollo needs his meds (he is usually 530 am 730 am 130 pm 530 pm 730pm amd 930pm) as you can see a very rough regimen .. if I know we arent going to be around or have pl...

Re: Bad, bad week :(

Thank you ladies. Sorry for the delayed response as I was off from work last week. Apollo has been doing better...2 good weeks...with saying that we are quickly approaching the downward of his cyle so I will start looking for signs of seizures in the next week or so. I did take him to the vet last W...

Important blood tests??

Hey everyone -
Doing alittle research right now, I am taking Apollo to the vet next week for some routine bloodwork -- was wondering what blood tests I should be sure they run when we are there...???

Re: Bad, bad week :(

They know about it -- I actually just made him an appointment for next week. I have a feeling his bloodwork may be alittle off and its time to change up his meds a bit... The last few days he hasnt had a full on seizure per say its more this tick that goes away within 10-15 seconds. But this "tick" ...
