Rash from medication

Has anyone else experience their dog getting a rash after taking zonasimide or Keppra XR? My dog has been on his dose a little over a month and lately I have noticed he is constantly biting and chewing at his skin. I am starting to get concerned because some of his hair is missing on his paws. We pu...

Re: terrified to leave my dog home alone

Question for you Eleys mom: How do you insert the Midazolam without your dog moving. My vet gave me some but everytime Xander comes out of a seizure he is way too active and won't hold still. The form he gave us was a saline I am suppose to put in his nostril.

Xander's successful 4 weeks

Xander had a seizure on tuesday morning. It's first one since July 14th. Most people would freak out about a cluster. I actually take it as a sign of success. This was the first time in the past four months where I didn't witness him having a cluster on an every one week to two week basis. The seizu...

Food allergies

Last month the vet informed that she thinks Xander has food allergies. When he would have a seizure he would get sick beforehand. Now he just goes into a seizure with no warning. Anyways last week we had to up his Keppra XR dose to three times a day. The past couple of days he has barely eaten and i...

Re: Started Keppra last month, still having seizures

My husky, Xander, will be 2 in September. He started having seizures in January. The vet had him on phenobarbital for two months during that time we were seizure free. Then Xander got very ill, I took him to the vet. Turned out he had a very rare side effect from the phenobarbital where it killed hi...

Re: Question about coping with your dog's condition

Thank you everyone for the responses! This feedback really helped me and I know it will take some time to cope with Xander's episodes. This past couple of weeks have been hard, everytime the word epilepsy comes out of my mouth I just breakdown and cry. At this point I just hope the medicine will hel...

Question about coping with your dog's condition

I have been on this site for two months and it's so great to talk to people that know what I am going through. My question is how do you cope with your own anxiety when your pet is having one of its bad weeks? I used to handle Xander epileptic episodes but for the past month they have come more ofte...

Re: Zonasimide

It's been one week and no seizures so far. *crossing fingers*. We took him to the vet and he basically had a full body exam with ultrasound and xrays. Vet found nothing however with the amount of vomiting he had last weekend the vet thinks he has food allergies. Because he always throws up right bef...

Re: My husky Xander

I do keep track on my calendar when he has a seizure and how long they last. I have been so fortunate that he has not had a cluster in two months. He did have one tonight that lasted 20 seconds. This was his first one he has had in three weeks. He used to urinate on himself while having one but the ...

Re: Newly diagnosed dog + booked vacation = STRESSED OUT own

My fiancé and I work a 40 hour week. my husky had a seizure in his kennel once and I felt so terrible not being home when it happened. So I tried to let him out of the kennel while I was at work. Well that was a disaster!! He chewed into the bookshelf and our leather couch. I talked to our vet for ...
