Clinical Trial on CBD Oil for Canine Epilepsy

Just searching for info on CBD oil for canine epilepsy and noticed that Colorado State University is trialing CBD oil for canine epilepsy and looking for participants. Thought someone here might find this a useful opportunity! http://csu-cvmbs.colostate.edu/vth/veterinarians/clinical-trials/Pages/ef...

Re: Keppra for clusters?

That's good to know, that the Keppra can break clusters.. The vets here haven't mentioned that so far. Dear Beau is currently at the vet hospital as he's been having cluster seizures for the last 24 hours. They're going to slightly increase his Pb dose and introduce KBr, apparently.

Re: Gluten Free = Seizure Free for Almost 6 months now!!!!!!

That's terrific to hear. Long may the great progress continue! Beau never had gluten in his diet but he was on Taste of the Wild kibble (grain free) from puppyhood until when he had his first seizure last year. I immediately moved him on to a raw diet instead, as well as Pexion (epilepsy medication)...

Re: Beau's first 4 week stretch...

Just wanted to pop back and give an update. ****touching wood****** Beau's been great since going on to Phenobarbital. We've completely discontinued the Pexion. He was so sick from the clusters, spent 2 days in hospital on IV pheno and was still having mini fits every minute or so after coming home....

Re: Care and attention adding in Phenobarb

Many thanks, Shiloh's Mum, that's terrific. Spoke to the vet earlier and they've had to give him Pheno to try and break this cluster cycle as he had another seizure late this evening too. Poor boy. I did speak to them about thyroid testing but we'll have to see how feasible that's going to be now as...

Care and attention adding in Phenobarb

So Beau has been hospitalised as his cluster seizures, which started yesterday morning (34 hours ago) are still not under control. He's had six grand-mal seizures in that time. We spoke to the vets yesterday afternoon after the second fit and they said to put up his Pexion to the max dose (600mg x 2...

Re: Beau's first 4 week stretch...

Sadly not... He started fitting again yesterday and has so far had 6 fits in the last 36 hours, despite rectal diazepam.

Beau's first 4 week stretch...

...and counting now. 7.5 weeks since we doubled his dose of Pexion. He went 3.5 weeks first of all before another seizure and now he's gone 4 weeks. That's the longest seizure free period since he first started with Epilepsy about 4.5 months ago. Woop woop! :D Beau Australian Shepherd x Pyrenean She...

Re: Morning seizures

Thanks for the good wishes and support. So far, so good since we've upped the Pexion dose... I'm not saying any more as I don't want to tempt fate!! :? 8) Actually, he's been scratching at one of his ears today even though I can't see anything inside his ear so I'm hoping there not something epileps...

Thanks for thinking of others and offering this warning when I know your heart must be broken for your boy. I will definitely remember your words should we ever have to discuss alternative meds with our vet.

Re: Morning seizures

Hi there, Thanks for your reply. Beau had a quiet night on the diazepam the other night (Thurs) as you can imagine and the little fits have now petered out (touch wood!!!!!!). He's been on the 400mg of Pexion twice a day since Thursday now. He was bit hyper and boisterous today but I remember he had...

Re: Morning seizures

Thanks Shiloh's Mum, that makes perfect sense. Can't believe I didn't think of that. Well, we visited the vet again today and his dose was doubled to 400mg of Pexion twice a day. However, yesterday evening I noticed that he was having tiny little seizures every few minutes, with just his facial musc...

Re: My boy is really really sick and we need help.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :( It's so heartbreaking when we do all we can and yet we are still powerless to change the course of events. I hope you take comfort from the fact that your dear boy would have felt all your love and support and would have known you were trying your hardest to help him. ...

Morning seizures

Hi there, Newby here. Our young dog Beau was diagnosed with epilepsy about 3 months ago. He had a fit one morning, out of the blue. I thought he was dying in front of my eyes at first! But in less than a minute, it was over, he got up and walked about like a crab for another couple of minutes...
