Re: vacation

I took vacations when my epilepsy pup was still around. I had a very good friend who loved him and so he would take care of him while we were gone. Towards the end our vet tech was watching him. It does present more challenges but there is still a way to have a vacation and relax.

Re: Going in reverse

Thought I'd come on here and say hi. About a month and a half after putting Deacon down I'm still struggling. I wake up sometimes and the pain is still there. I feel that pain in my chest. I'm hoping at some point it starts being easier but right now its still pretty hard. I got into work today and ...

Re: Going in reverse

I'm struggling hard with my decision. Everyone keeps telling me I did what was best for him. I come from an extended family of dog people who all feel he didn't have any quality of life at the end and I did what was best for him. I'll probably feel that way in the long run but right I feel so much o...

Re: Going in reverse

thank you for all the kind words, in a day or two I will respond more. Right now I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to donate his unused medicines to those who might be able to use it. I have potassium bromide, phenobarbital, keppra, Valium and a pill for post seizure whose name esc...

Re: Going in reverse

We lost Deacon today. He started with seizures yesterday and our usual rescue regime did nothing. We brought him into the hospital to see the vet. This morning he went into a seizure and he was still so rigid and his face was still twitching. He was aware of me being there with him and was doing his...

Re: Going in reverse

Deacon just had his third seizure today. After all three he fell right to sleep which is not his usual post ictal behavior. He spent the day walking into things and it seemed like he was having trouble seeing. I'm going to reach out to the animal hospital and our neurologist. If they are going to ha...

Re: Going in reverse

Three seizures this weekend. Two in one day. I know after five weeks of nothing I should be happy. I think I'll feel better when we go a day without one. When he started having multiple days in a row with seizures it became hard because we didn't know when they'd break. I will be honest and say I'm ...

Re: 4 Month Old Great Dane Puppy

I think it's normal to look for a why, you want to know what caused this. Or at least I did. You should have heard my call to the vet telling them that his vaccinations caused a seizure. Then my break down that my emotions caused it. The reality is that I will just never get an answer to why. My guy...

Re: Going in reverse

I'm sure I'm not the only owner of an epileptic dog who sometimes is afraid to say things out loud for fear of jinxing things. But I'm going to do just that. It's been a little over a week since we lowered the dose of Keppra for Deacon and he is really improved. I wouldn't say he is 100% back to his...

Re: Going in reverse

I want to scream, use every swear I know and kick a lot of things. But I'm not going to because I'm also really tired. lol I finally after numerous calls talked to our vet. Deacon had been improving but by that I mean he can get up, he'll go the bathroom and he spends about two hours a day awake. Ma...

Re: Please help me, I'm scared for 10 month old english bull

When my journey started I was shocked and in disbelief. It's normal to feel so overwhelmed right now. We have only hospitalized my dog once, our neurologists tries to minimize the big costs when possible. I'm very lucky to have a family and friends who will listen to me and are supportive. I switche...

Re: epileptic dog/ anesthesia concern for dental cleaning

My dog is a patient at Angel Memorial. He's never had a cleaning but we have been there numerous times otherwise. They have a great neruology department and the vets there share information with eachother so I would have no problem having them do my dog's dental work if needed. My dog was neutered s...

Re: Going in reverse

So I have not heard from the vet yet. I don't even know what to say about that. This is the first time I have felt like I'm having trouble getting him to talk to me. I will say yesterday morning I couldn't get Deacon up to go out, to do anything. I'll admit that I got desperate and gave him one less...

Re: Going in reverse

We were going to try to wait it out and see if with time Deacon got better. Unfortunately he's now not walking, he's been asleep almost constantly. He hasn't eaten in a few days and barely is drinking. He hasn't gone the bathroom since last night. My mom feels strongly that it is not fair to him ifn...

Re: Going in reverse

So Deacon has not had a seizure since we brought him back from the hospital which is a great leap forward. He recovered from his hospital stay and seemed to be almost completely himself again. I was away for about 24 hours, or really three pill cycles. My dad who is with him anyways was in charge of...
