Keep searching for information on canine distemper just as you are doing. Take very special care of your dog while he is so ill, it is possible that the jerking will go away with time but it may take a long while and it may not go away completely. Best luck to your boy. I think you are in a wait and see situation. Work with your vet and your breeder to try to find out what's going on. Good luck to your little puppy,

Thimerosal

Thimerosal is a mercury-containing preservative used in some canine vaccines - in humans the potential for neurological problems in children, was enough to have this ingredient removed from vaccines, (so I've read on the internet)! Have there been any studies on the effect of Thimerosal in relation ...

Rectal Valium (Diazapam)

What is the time-frame for rectal valium to work? Are there any possible side effects after administering valium per rectum? I've used the valium on my Chinook with apparent success in breaking her seizure, but found some unsteadyness while walking that lasted a few hours - wondering if that is from...

Age of Onset

How variable is age of onset for inherited epilepsy within a breed - do you see that some lines have a different age of onset than others?

Are there any studies showing that outcrossing (to a different breed) has produced a more extreme expression of a disorder than that typically found in a purebred breed? If so, what's the genetics behind such an occurrence and could variable expressivity/complete penetrance come into play here? Than...

Ocular compression

How effective is ocular compression in controlling seizures? Is this something owners can do at home to help our epi-dogs and if so, what's the procedure? Thanks for any info on this topic.

Statistical Info

Is it possible to extrapolate data regarding the percent affected in a breed, using the research section's listings of numbers of participating dogs in a breed, and total numbers of affected?

Test Breedings

At some point in the genetic research, will it be necessary to do test breedings?

Thanks for comments. The one other association I've found about potatoes and seizures came from my sister, who worked with the Ketogenic Diet - she relays that potatoes are excluded from the diet due to too many carbs for ketosis. Well, just in case --- my guys don't get MacDonald's french fries any...

Seizures and Temperament

My two dogs have apparent familial focal seizures and recently had EEGs. Both were given a light sedative prior to testing. My male settled in and took a nap; my female fought the sedative and would periodically change her position, going through her typical attention grabbing antics. She is v...

Blood samples and the study

I've got two epi-dogs in the study, and when I discuss the study I'm often asked about the blood samples. Folks are very interested in what happens to the blood samples when they are received at the lab. And I've been asked how blood can be useful for studies on epilepsy, when blood tests such as CB...

Potatoes and Seizures

Has there been any research looking into a relationship between potatoes and seizures?
Have any owners noticed a relationship?

Any suggestions on how to conduct a mini-study for a breed where some owners report a relationship?

Here's a few additional fundraising ideas: T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and notecards with custom artwork for your breed, a breed calendar with photos contributed from owners that could also include collages of several different dogs (it's too late for January 2001 but still lots of time to work on ...
