Re: Dosage of keppra and keppra XR

My dog started on regular Keppra then I switched to XR. He seemed to handle it better. However, in the last 4-6 months, the vet has increased the dosage as it seems the drug had a "honeymoon" period. First he was on 250mg 3x per day, now on 750mg XR 2x per day. I may need to increase this more as hi...

Re: Keppra and advice for a newbie that leaves dog home alon

Thanks for the reply. Bronco had a seizure today which I saw on the webcam, so I went home at lunch and gave him Keppra. Although the frequency had decreased 5-6 months ago, it seems the frequency is gaining again to be every 3-4 wks. The one thing the Keppra has done well is bust his clusters. Befo...

Re: Newbie with questions

I have noticed that sometimes when a cold front moves in, that coincides with my dog's seizures...I think it is a factor.

Re: New to forum...questions on Keppra & leaving dog alone

I am having my dog neutered. He is 2 yrs old. Does anyone have experience with their dogs improving with seizures due to having this done?

Re: New to forum...questions on Keppra & leaving dog alone

Thanks Trevor, I have found the Keppra is good to limit/bust Bronco's cluster seizure as well. I'm trying to start him on a new food by Purina that is supposedly helps with seizure frequency. I hate leaving him while I'm at work, luckily I live only 20 mins away so I can go to him when I see on webc...

Re: New member with questions

Keppra is the least toxic to dogs in larger quantities, based on my readings/discussions with vet. My dog started on 250mg 3x day. Now he is on 750mg Keppra ER, 2x per day. When he has a seizure, I give him a Keppra, and it shortens the seizure duration and clustering. Also, try ocular pressure. I j...
