Re: Phenobarbital - different manufacturers
I found the same phenobarbital at CVS and had the vet write a prescription but next month I might try the vet's generic.

Thank you. Your posts have been of great help this year for both Ziggy and I. Best wishes for a Happy New Year.

Phenobarbital - different manufacturers
Ziggy is very sensitive to medication and seems to do well on only one brand of generic Keppra. However, today when I picked up his phenobarbital the vet furnished a different brand of phenobarbital - does anyone have experience with changing brands? As to the Keppra, I have gone to great lengths to...

Re: New to seizures w/ 7 year old labradoodle
I wanted to tell you that the best decision I made with Ziggy was to go to a neurologist - my regular vet suggested one and I resisted for a few months but when I did go it was a very good experience. Dog neurologists treat a lot of seizures in all different kinds of dogs and she was very informativ...

Re: Keppra Generic Brands
I was able to get the Camber generic Keppra from Ziggy's neurologist's office. She agreed it is best to stay with the same generic if at all possible. One crisis averted for now.

Re: Seizures brought on by an empty stomach
Ziggy now gets meals five times a day - he had a episode of severe gastritis in May along with increased seizures - up to three in one day. He is now getting Hills Z/D wet and dry food and has stabilized. I think I could cut back to 4 meals a day but the meals are mini meals and seem to help him. I ...

Re: Keppra Generic Brands
Hi all - Ziggy has been doing well - last seizure was 9/5/18; he is taking Keppra generic 1000 mg three times a day and phenobarbital 1.5 grams 2 times a day. His blood work came back good; he is still only eating Hills Z/D and has no nausea and diarrhea. However, he has been on the Camber generic k...

Re: Seizures - food allergy
Thank you. Glad that Killian is doing so much better. I too am not discounting the food. I am going to keep Ziggy on the Z/D - it is a terrible food in that it is really not food and is incredibly expensive but he had 17 seizures between 12/23/17 and 5/5/18. Now he is okay except for the toll I fear...

Seizures - food allergy
My Ziggy, 6 years old, shepherd/lab mix, had his first seizure 12/13/17. He has had an MRI, spinal, etc. No cause was found. Prior to his first seizure, he had gone through a week of diarrhea, vomiting. I thought perhaps he had eaten something toxic but nothing was found in his blood, liver to indic...

Re: Killian - aka Honey Badger - aka Lil Bit - aka Baby
I know it is so stressful. My Ziggy, lab/shepherd mix, 6 years old, had his first seizure 12/13/17 and continues to have seizures. I had so much trouble sleeping at night as Ziggy sleeps with me and he has had a few seizures in the early morning in bed. No helpful suggestions, just wanted you to kno...

Re: Veterinary MRI
I have Petplan and had an MRI done on 4/9/18; I do not know if they would have covered the MRI if I had not had Petplan for 6 years on Ziggy prior to his seizure. As to the MRI, I felt I had to do it. Ziggy had his first seizure on 12/23/17 at age 6 and is not doing well. Two days before the MRI, he...

Re: Seizures brought on by an empty stomach
I have a 6 year old lab shepherd mix - not sure of what Ziggy's mix is and he started having seizures on 12/23/17 at age 6 - his date of birth is 11/1/11. The food question is interesting - Ziggy gets 4 meals a day as for quite sometime he would become ill - throwing up if he did not get a Noon and ...

Re: MRI tomorrow 4/9/18
The MRI and the spinal tap were negative so the diagnosis is late onset idiopathic epilepsy. The neurologist is really kind and understanding. In two weeks Ziggy goes back for a Phenobarbital and Keppra blood level - one blood draw when he is due for his meds and the other blood draw two hours after...

MRI tomorrow 4/9/18
Hi - I have scheduled an MRI for Ziggy tomorrow. On 4/7/18, he had three seizures; meds were increased to 1000 Keppra 3x day and Phenobarbital 1.5 grams 2 x a day. Fortunately Ziggy's insurance has agree to pay 80 percent of the MRI so I felt I should go ahead with it as I really need to know what i...

Re: Adding Potassium Bromide - quality of life
Sorry to hear of Rugby's seizures - he is so young. I hope he is doing better. My fear of Ziggy not coming out of a seizure is great - I did find two 24/7 dog ambulance services in Las Vegas that would transport him as I am not able to pick him up. Ziggy, like Rugby also has some what of a pattern -...
