Re: I thought that we had this licked.

You're doing everything you can and that's all you can do. You're handling things much better than I did. In the beginning I was determined that I could find a away to stop the seizures, and there must be something that hadn't been tried yet. Kind of arrogant. I look back and wonder why everyone did...

Re: I thought that we had this licked.

I'm sorry you and Poppy are going through all of this. Unfortunately more often than not, even with perfect test results, our fur babies continue to seize and we have to accept it. I've had to accept many things I didn't want to in my life, but accepting that Jake was refractory and there was no mag...

Re: Dog had 3 seizures

Losing Jake was by far one of the most painful things I've been through and I never thought I could trust to adopt again, but we did. I know this might sound weird, but I could almost feel Jake nudging me to not give up, and not to let this horrible disease not only take him from me, but also the pa...

Re: Dog had 3 seizures

This is so hard and I wish there was something I could say that would make it easier for you. Earlier in the day when Jake died he'd had a really good day. We went for a nice walk and he was his Jake self. Then around 10:30pm he had a seizure, then another, and they wouldn't stop not matter what we ...

Re: Dog had 3 seizures

I am so sorry I missed this post and so sorry you lost him this way. I just saw your post from yesterday. I understand how heartbroken you are. Jake died the same way. It does get better, but it takes time and a lot of tears. So please be kind to yourself while you go through all of this. And rememb...

Re: Vocalizing During Seizures?

Hi Joe, Before our Jake had his first Grand Mal he used to howl in the middle of the night. We thought he was just dreaming. Then after he started seizing from time to time he would cry or squeal very loud or other times would bark frantically as though someone was trying to hurt him. It usually hap...

Re: Dog had 3 seizures

I'm so glad things are better. Yes this disease takes us on emotional roller coaster rides that sometimes seem like they'll never end. I was always in awe of how Jake bounced back time and time again. Usually better than I did :)
I hope you have many seizure free days ahead of you.
Take Care,
Lynne

Re: Introducing Phrynie (Fry-Knee)

Hi Beth, I wasn't able to respond when you initially posted and I'm so sorry it ended this way. Anyone who has been through the special love you have with an epileptic dog knows the pain and agony of watching this disgusting disease take your beloved dog away. We do have a special bond with our dogs...

Re: PM's not being sent

Hi Colleen, The same thing happened to me back in 2017 when Jake died and I tried to contact Vivian and Trevor before I posted it on the board. The difference was that I couldn't even get the messages posted and my long time log in information stopped working. I contacted CEN directly and it was tak...

Re: Life after epilepsy

Hi Chris, I'm so glad you posted. I've thought about you many times since you lost Molly, and I'm glad to hear you're doing better. I said many times while our Jake fought this disease that it's so easy to put the trauma you go through watching them seize on the back burner because you have to, but ...

Re: Hello from Jeff, Fand, and Li Ban

Hi Jeff, First I have to say you have two very beautiful girls. MK's Mom, a member here, who is also passionate about her Irish Setters has been through the mill and back with epilepsy so you may want to read up on her journey. She's had two so far that have been diagnosed and I don't know anyone el...

Re: generic Keppra XR giving senior dog diarrhea

I'm so sorry for your loss. This disease is relentless. One of the first things you do is second guess what you did, but in your heart you know you did everything humanly possible. Seizures are unpredictable and come on without warning and you're stuck between trying to hopefully get and keep them u...

Hi Orli, I'm so glad you posted. I've thought of you many times and wondered how you are. I remember you and Pereg and how hard you fought for her. I do hope you know you did everything you could for her. I do share the pain of losing such a special dog. We also have adopted another dog who needed u...

Happy Holidays

To everyone here I want wish you a seizure free holiday. The holidays, maybe because of the excitement, seemed to be challenging for our Jake. I sincerely hope and pray there is a breakthrough in finding a cure in 2019. Here's to our brave pups, past and present, for their strength and determination...
