Re: Phenobarbital overdose with extremely long recovery
Oh my! what a story. Personally, I would take him off the epilepsy meds and see what happens, since he never had a seizure before. It sounds like he may have had a stroke from the operation. If that is the case, hopefully he can fully recover with time. What a nightmare.

For all dog owners - A Dog's Purpose
If you read this already, read it again. If you haven't.. I think you'll understand why you put so much effort into keeping your epi-dogs with you. A Dog's Purpose? (from a 6-year-old). Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, ...

CHICKEN TREAT WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the link to the article: http://tinyurl.com/7ua59w5 I posted this on the forum: I have an 11 year old English Cocker female and an 11 year old Shitzu male. I have been giving them Wagon Train treats bought at Costco for about 5 years. In fact, when the 2008 incidents happened, I called and t...

Did you change your food or treats? If not, the manufacturer of your food could have changed or added something.
It might be worth a shot to try a different high quality food. No soy, wheat or corn. Ease off any dairy.

Re: My Daisey's story
Daisy's dad,
So very sorry to hear your story and unfortunate ending. My Peanut lasted 7 years with epilepsy, but Daisy's story is the exact same, just in a shorter time frame. You did more than most for Daisy and I'm sure she was worth every bit of love you gave her.
Richard

Re: Need some help
Thanks everyone. As always, this forum knows everything. I took Casey off the milk thistle for now because we think it bothered his stomach, or it could be the tetracycline for the suspected Lyme, but since the Lyme is more of an issue, I stopped the thistle. Melynda, thanks for all the info and the...

Need some help
My non-epi Casey needs to take milk thisle. I'd like to have some input on dosage (please include weight of dog and times/day). I have been giving Casey some and he seems to be having some stomach problems. Do any of you have the same problems with the milk thisle?
Thanks
Rich
Thanks

Re: Troubles with Excessive Urination
Nothing should surprise you about this disease. One thing for sure, it is ever-changing, but like I said, I bet on Riku self-correcting this issue. Glad to hear it's better. Keep us posted.

Re: Troubles with Excessive Urination
It has been my experience that it changes with time, not that it necessarily lessens the drinking. My bet is Riku will adjust to the meds in the next week and the peeing will lessen if not stop. Atleast, I hope so.
Still try to lessen his water intake.

Re: Troubles with Excessive Urination
Riku's peeing is for sure related to his meds. They tend to drink much more water and therefore pee more. He's only been on the meds for just over a week. Give him time to adjust. Right below the header Canine Epilepsy Network above is a "search". I would look through the posts on urinating and peei...
