Mattie's last post
Mattie was showing minor signs of ataxia in her rear legs for a week or so - minor - so we weren't too worried. Yesterday she seemed a little lethargic and Helen said she didn't want to chase the ball when she took her out before work this morning. I took her out a couple hours later and hid her bal...

Since posting we did some more thinking about events around the 20th and a few days prior I sprayed inside the dog's fence for weeds. I threw the container away so can't tell for sure but will be checking it out. The weeds were taking over and we hadn't sprayed the area just for this reason. We figu...

Not eating & other things
The weekend of June 21 & 22, Mattie almost stopped eating. Prior to this she had been eating a lot of grass. She had vomited a couple of times and then wouldn't eat. She always came downstairs with me as I filled everyone's food bowl and sometimes would get a few pieces of kibble. During the weekend...

It was a long, but fun weekend.
Mattie & I just finished a long weekend of training at the NASDN seminar at Camp Ripley, MN. Last year, the night before we left, Mattie had two seizures and we had a short weekend as she seemed to be fighting seizures after the second day. This year I took along enough stuff to do a clean up in cas...

Helen just informed me that she had found the cat food bucket lid moved and some of it is gone. I was telling her on Saturday that Mattie looked different, like she had put on weight. Now comparing notes it looks like Mattie got into the cat food Thursday and/or Friday. I'm guessing she was interrup...

I snuck out of work long enough to pick up Mattie's pheno prescription and visit with the vet. She checked Mattie's records and the thyroid was done after the first few seizures and they are fine. We are increasing her pheno to 2.5 gr twice a day and the vet is going to research other meds. The vet ...

We give Mattie melatonin as she would pace in circles through the living room, dining room & kitchen. She's been getting it for a couple of months and now she will actually go lay on the couch. She will get up and follow me if I leave the room, but it holds down the pacing. Sometimes she will even s...

MK's Mom, that is what we do also. In fact when she was in for her vaccinations on Feb 15th I was asking the vet about giving her an extra 1/2 tab about a week before we are scheduled for a training seminar and continue it to about a week afterwards. Last year she had two hard seizures about 2 hrs a...

More on Mattie
Mattie had her worst seizures to date this morning about 2am. Her last seizure was 17 days ago. (before it was 17, 65, 60, 15, 121 days ) We had noticed her breathing was different this evening when we came home and let everyone out of the kennel. She wasn't really coughing, but almost. Later when s...

We can relate. After going 121 days in April '07 we went 15, 60, 65 days and then 24 days between seizures. The last one was Feb 7th '08 but was the mildest seizure to date. Trooper is in the adjoining crate and barked to wake us up as Mattie was coming out of the seizure. (Usually we hear her as sh...

Mattie had the same problems and it can be discouraging for awhile. As time went on she seemed to come out of it. Every time Mattie needs to go outside we have her chase a ball so she gets lots of exercise and it seemed to help her get through it. It's been pretty icy since December around here and ...
