Vivian and Debrand, thank you for your kind words. Yes, Debrand you are lucky you didn't have to make that decision. But there are always regrets either way. But still hurts either way. At least they aren't suffering anymore. My thoughts are with you.

My Jack is gone

It's taken over a month to write this. Jack had more seizures the middle of June. Zonisamide, and higher doses of rectal valium were supposed to help. They didnt. The time in between seizure periods was getting shorter. That night he had five back to back seizures, gave him all the valium we c...

I had Jack on Solid Gold Barking at the Moon which is a wheat, graing, corn and soy free dry kibble. While he did ok seizure-wise on it, he has horrible allegies and this kibble did not help with that. Switched him about a month ago to Fromm's fish and potatoe dry kibble which is wheat and corn free...

How long has your pup been on the Zonisamide? My neuro said it takes a little over a week to take effect.

Well the bad news is, Jack had his seizures 5 days early. The good news is that the stronger dose of valium broke his clusters, he only had 2 seizures and one partial, as opposed to six seizures and a trip to the ER. We did go with the neuro's recommendation to wean him off the PB and KBr. This happ...

Hi Susan, Jack has been having seizures for a year now. He started the 1st of June 2007. He's having cluster seizures every two weeks and has been in that pattern for the past seven months. I've been told by several vets and his neuro that he is an extremely hard case. I can't remember....is Morgan ...

Boxer Mom, that sounds like an allergic reaction to me. I am very very sensitive to meds and that is the exact same thing that happens to me with certain meds....hives everywhere. Did you notice if your pup had trouble breathing? If so, that could be hives on the inside too, which is what happens to...

Jane, your last post just about made me cry. I researched PB and Zonisamide and looks like a few studies have been done on the combined effect. I'm no chemist but from what i could gather, the studies are finding that the combo reduces the effectiveness of each due to the way they are metabolized, s...

ok well now i'm a little worried. Jack is 100lbs and was put on 250mg of zonisamide 2 x a day and is being weaned off PB and KBr. He's due for a seizure Tuesday. How often does McKenna usually have seizures? I know what you mean about feeling like you are running out of options.

Just had our first appointment with the neuro yesterday. Jack is having 3-6 cluster seizures every two weeks and is on PB & KBr both of which are in the high theraputic range. Neuro advised to wean him off both and put him on Zonisamide. I noticed this post and was hoping those who have their pups o...

Meg, I am taking my Jack to his first Neuro visit tomorrow. Wish I had done it much sooner, so its good that you are going to see one so soon. We are choosing not to do an MRI. If he has a brain tumor we know we won't have him operated on or put through chemo. If he doesn't have a tumor, but were to...

I to believe that "amensia" is normal. My Jack does the same thing. I can just look in his eyes and know he doesn't quite know who i am. I let him sniff everything to get himself reacquainted with us. i also go through his obedience commands with him, seems to help bring him around. Additionally, i'...

Vivian, i will look into the Taurine. Now i remember you mentioning that in previous posts but with all the craziness lately, i had forgotten. Meg, my suggestion is just TELL them to start your pup on KBr and TELL them to start with a loading dose to get his levels up quickly.

Don't know what to do....

Jack landed in the hospital again Tuesday morning with back to back seizures. Got him to hospital, had another seizures, they took him back to critical care unit, put him on a valium IV and while we were talking with the vet, we heard this horrible howling/screaming coming from Jack. The vet said he...
