Welcome Robert and sorry you had to join us. If he fits when he gets excited has the vet checked out his heart? This is not a typical grand Mal epileptic seizure that he is having. If your dog can get excited and play with other dogs with no problem but reacts like this when you get home your dog mi...

Why the 17th of the month? Does anything happen on the days before hand like any treatments for flea, tick or heartworm or do you give them some sort of supplement? Is this the day you do a certain cleaning thing in your house? They are not having seizures that often and the drugs do not normal stop...

I agree - the vet schools would be interested. One thing I remembered from a Jean Dodds seminar I went to a few years back was she said that what we are seeing in our dogs now was what we were going to have to deal with as humans in 10 years. She went on to say that because dogs are closer to nature...

The only things I can think of is 1. their food 2. the container you are keeping their water in 3. the soil in your area. Sometimes the plastic containers can taint the water. It is recommended to use either a ceramic dish or good quality stainless steel and change the water daily. Have you had your...

Dr Dodds recommends not to use anything with the PLUS in it and if you use any treatments stagger them over the month. Herding type dogs react to an ingredient in it - I think Invermicin (spelling). From other sites I have been told to stay away from the Hartz brand as this causes a lot of adverse r...

Yes my girl had an extremely low thyroid level (hypothyroidism). Before I had the tests done I spoke to Jean Dodds who said that this may be what was causing her seizures. After much argueing with the vet he finally relented and did the tests and sent them over to Dr Dodds. She ended up by being put...

By using the vallium frequently they build up a resistance to it very quickly. My vet told me to use the vallium tablets every three hours until the clusters stopped and then for another 3 hours after that. I found after a while they did no good. I was also told to double the PB for several doses af...

Deb, We know it is hard but the one thing you need to do is keep calm. If you are stressed out then Rocky is going to pick it up and it will do no good for him. Go to LINKS on the left hand side and then on to Epi Guardian angels. Click in the list of contents and at the top of the page in Diagnosti...

If you think it is stress related try using DAP. You can get this from pet stores and vets and it is a natural pheromome used by the bitch to calm the pups during feeding. I use it on my over the top boy before shows. The lady who put me onto it uses it when she transports dogs overseas. Just calms ...

I'm not even going to look. I have seen enough seizures to last a lifetime. Is there anyway one of you can post a message telling them exactly what is happening and try and save this poor creature or get onto the people that look after the site.

I have just received my copy of the NZKC magazine and in it is an article on Canine diabetes. One of the breeds that have a predisposition to it are Pinschers. The symptoms are excessive hunger, thirst and urination and the dog will lose weight as the body breaks down fats and proteins to get needed...

You don't say what the vet gave him to stop the seizures. He needs a big dose of PB or vallium to stop the clusters before it gets into status level. If the seizures are getting worse it sounds like the meds need to be upped or KBr added. It is not putting to sleep time yet there is still plenty for...

What a beautiful dog. You should be very proud of yourselves to have given this beautiful dog a new home. Bless you. These dogs are sent to us for some unknown reason and one day you will find out why you were chosen.
