Re: Meara
It's great that Meara has made it a year seizure free. A word of caution though, Poppy made is seizure free for over 2 years and we had even talked about maybe reducing her PB. Sadly, her seizures returned before we reduced Pb. Her seizures were harder to control even with upping Pb, so we had to ad...

Re: hydrocephalus
Hi here Poppy had MRI scans done when first diagnosed with epilepsy, she was also diagnosed with hydrocephalus, after comaprison MRI's this was said to be congenital and not a cause of her epilepsy. We did talk about a VP shunt op, but because her condition was congenital and there was no difference...

Hello Jeni So sorry to hear about Nero. Has Nero recently had any vaccinations, flea treatment, wormers? If you search through this Forum, you will find quite a few dogs have started seizures after vaccinations/flea treatments etc. Also, have you used any chemical cleaning agents around the house? T...

So sorry for your loss.
It's very sad to hear that another epi pup has left this world. You did everything possible for Trinity, remember your happy memories together.
Thinking of you.

Re: Trying to Make Heads or Tails Of It All
Hi there
Sorry you had to join us. Another thing to look at is; has your dog had any vaccinations, worming or flea treatments lately?
Although many vets will say these do not cause seizures, many on here have linked them to the start of their dogs onset of seizures.
Good luck with your dog.

Re: New here
Hi Lisa Sorry to hear about Scout. From my experience, it's perfectly 'normal' for them to have side-effects' from the phenobarb. My dog was 'wobbly' and paced for a couple of weeks after starting. The trouble with not treating the seizures is that the brain learns to have them more, called 'kindlin...

So sorry you had to join us. Phenobarb worked pretty much straight away with my dog when she started on the drug, hopefully it will kick in with Toby too. I think it took a couple of weeks for Poppy to get used to the Phenobarb, and apart from putting a little weight on, she went back to being very ...

I feel your pain. After going 2 years seizure free, Poppy started again March 2009. We couldn't get them back under control even with increasing Pb, we have now added KBr and that seems to be doing the trick. Poppy also seizes at night when sleeping - there have been quite a few recommendations on h...

In the UK we are not offered seperate injections - it's a yearly booster with several vaccines, ( parvo, leptosirosis, distemper etc). Vets in the UK seem very against not having dogs vaccinated. The other thing to be cautious of is flea and worming treatments, again vets will try and convince you t...

Hi Lou If you get referred to the Royal Veterinary College for Vinnie's epilepsy episodes, they have an 'epilepsy clinic' for dogs/cats. Please don't worry too much if Vinnie is put on Phenobarb. My dog has now been on this for over 3 years - as long as you have regular blood/liver tests done. Good ...

We're still here - but sadly after 2 years seizure free, Poppy's seizures returned in March this year and we've had to increase her Pb and add KBr. It's so sad that during our time on CEN we've seen many epi's pass on, heartbreaking. it's lovely to hear Kbugs has a new puppy Jezzabelle Ladybug, what...
