Hi Carolyn I too have accepted that Poppy has this condition and will have to take medication for the rest of her life. At the beginning I was horrified to think that she would have to be on Pb forever! I really do think that this was a case of her not taking her tablet in the morning and her Pb lev...

A great run ended - starting over again
The Monster returned on Thurs 5th March at 6:15pm. I had forgotten how ghastly this monster is. Poppy had been seizure free since starting on phenobarb on 24th Dec 2006. I can't understand what went wrong, but can only think she somehow managed to 'spit' her tablet out. Nothing else has changed in h...

Hi Tobie I think others on here have tried the 'holistic approach' without success. Please do not be afraid of Pb - as long as your dog receives regular blood and liver function tests, it can work really well. The more seziures your dog has the more the brain will learn to have more 'the kindling ef...

Hi there Just reading your posts - sorry to hear that Lexxington has epilepsy. As part of my dog Poppy's neurology tests we did MRI scans and spinal taps. The result of the MRI scan revealed that Poppy had narrowed tubes that drain the spinal fluid from her brain and she did have hydrocephalus (but ...

Hi there Just reading through your posts. I like MK's Mom would suggest Pb as an alternative or add on, as it seems Hailey's drug treatment is not working. The longer your pup is having seizures, the more harder it will be to control them. Is your vet a Neurologist? I am wondering why he is reluctan...

I too am very sad when reading of pups that have passed and those owners who are struggling to keep their pups seizures under control. I feel blessed that Poppy has been seizure free for 2 years this Dec. I rest much easier at night now, but there are times when Poppy does things and I think h...

Hi Josh Sorry to hear about Meara. Having a dog with epilepsy is a huge learning curve, I was so lucky to find this site - you will find it very usefull. I am surprised your vet advised weaning Meara off of Pb after such a short period of time - I believe (and I am sure I read on this site somwhere)...

Echoing Debs' reply - Has you vet mentioned rectal valium? My dog started with clusters, and the valium really helped stop them and also greatly reduced the post-ictal phase. Have you been referred to a Neurologist, as it sounds like your dogs seziures are not being controlled by phenobarb alone, yo...
