Hi Janice, i've seen mild seizures like that a few times. I agree it could be a one-time thing or the start of something worse, and it's impossible to know which. Just to pick a number, i'd say if she goes 6 months from here without any more issues, it's likely to have been a one-time deal. At least...

Hi Linda, i think it's the KBr affecting his hind legs. Could be wrong but I don't recall ever hearing of any dog on more KBr than that....2500mg/day?! I'm glad it's controlling his seizures but yes he should probably have blood tests for KBr and Pb drug levels. I had a rocking horse named Gus one t...

I'm back! I guess we have to cancel the book deal. Of course none of us really believed he'd never have another seizure but it was a nice fantasy while it lasted. And it lasted 18 days! Then he had a whole bunch over a few days and i went from elation to depression. Now he's ok again! Just had an ul...

Hi, i have thoughts about the whining and the peeing issues. Jackson had these same things after a particularly bad seizure episode and the whining lasted a number of days. I believe it was mental angst and not physical pain. Not sure that makes it any better or not. Same deal with peeing in the hou...

Jackson is Breaking One Record After Another
As of today, Jackson has gone 14 days without a seizure, and is still going. Yesterday (13 days) he broke a record going back over one year, and today's 14 days breaks a 2 year record! The last time he went 14 days was September 2005. This really confirms that something has changed in the past few m...

I think a vet will sometimes mention the option of euthanasia just as a way of letting the person know that this is an acceptable thing to consider, maybe not yet, but at some point. I'm really struggling with this same stuff. Two weeks ago Jackson was diagnosed with pneumonia and megaesophagus agai...

Vivian, i think the idea was that the dog was in such bad condition, having so many seizures, that it was time to euthanize. There wasn't time to slowly withdraw the drugs. She did say that the one condition where they would have used a drug during the withdrawal was if the dog went into status....o...

Hi Dan, not that i'm an expert but this is one of the worst cases i've heard of. Time for drastic measures, but what sort? I am not a big believer in alternative medicine, in fact i'm very skeptical, but i have heard a few stories that make me think it actually works in some cases. The problem is th...

Hi Deb, it's getting easy to remember names here. Just call everyone Deb and you'll only be wrong about half the time. Seizure while giving birth...wow, never heard that one before. 3 pups with seizures...wow. I hope all these dogs have been neutered/spayed. Anyway, welcome aboard, you have lots of ...

Are you sure those pills are 50mg? Something fishy about this. How are the seizures coming along now? This is a case where i think adding Pb makes sense....i don't understand his hesitation unless he's worried about a visit from a narcotics agent. And really, prescribing Valium for when the dog gets...
