I've seen quite a few people using milk thistle and/or samE (sam-e ?...not sure what it is) to help with liver problems, but i have no experience with either. Same old story as with every other treatment.....some say it's great, some say it's dangerous, and the rest say it doesn't do anything at all...

Maybe new vet and new husband too. Sorry, bad joke. Strange how Magic's seizures were well-controlled for years and now have gotten much worse. Or maybe that happens more than i'm aware of. If KBr is maxed out then there aren't many options besides adding Pb it seems to me.

A guy on another site said his dog developed horrible mouth ulcers from squirting KBr directly into his mouth. I've never heard of a dog on AEDs hating food. Maybe Raven hasn't been on the drugs long enough for the food obsession to kick in yet. Jackson would eat gravel if i put it in his bowl.

It depends on the concentration. The compounding pharm should tell you what that is, if it doesn't say on the bottle. Typical is 250mg/ml which would be 700 mg.

You should put the KBr on Raven's food instead of directly into her mouth. Lotsa problems with that method.

I don't know what to believe anymoer.....too much conflicting evidence in every aspect of this disease! What happened to feeding Purina Dog Chow...or worse? What ever happened to the days when you just let the dog outside to run free in the middle of the city and he usually came back alive? That's w...

Vivian, I did talk to the breeder when Jackson was first diagnosed. She's a vet and was very sorry and tried to be helpful but she lives in a different state and, you know, i wasn't about to give him back to her. She had already stopped breeding his parents because, in her words, "the sire is quite ...

Oh thanks Melissa, i've never seen that before. I'd be happy to put Jackson in their database but the forms are a bit confusing....i'll try emailing the person in charge. Maybe they only want registered dogs, and i don't think i ever registered (AKC?) Jackson. Plus, he only has one name and everyone...

I just noticed that the link i provided didn't really go to the correct place. If you go halfway down the linked page there is a picture of a white dog baring its teeth, and a couple lines below that is a link to the fly-biting article. Have you tested his Pb blood level yet? That would be a good wa...

Hi Bill, yeah, these cycle things are weird and i don't think anybody knows why they happen that way. If you had said 14 days everybody would be telling you it was the moon, but 12 days, i dunno. But i'd be surprised if his seizures don't change to some other schedule over time. These things never s...

Hi Sharon, i'd just mention that it's possible that some of those drug side effects you're seeing are actually after-effects of the multiple seizures. Either way, they'll probably get better with a little time. One reason i think it might be from the seizures and not the drugs (yet) is that i think ...

Hi April, somebody else was asking about fly-biting today. Here's a link to a good article (with a movie clip) in case you haven't seen it... http://www.canine-epilepsy.net/basics/basics_index.html Has the phenobarb done anything to help it? How long has he been on the Pb? what dose? etc. Does he ke...

Yeah, well, once you get to know me you'll find out that i'm absolutely sure of all kinds of things that later turn out to be false. It's very hard on my ego! But i'm not ready to throw in the towel on jinxing yet. I'm telling you it's hogwash, nonsense, baloney, rubbish, etc etc (i got out the thes...

What gives? This place is getting overrun with poodles lately. Oodles of poodles !! I'm glad your girl has found a good home now. My 13 year old black standard (non-epi) male, Felix, has just been diagnosed with kidney failure and i'm trying to come to grips with that, so it's nice to hear a happy (...
