What is "rage syndrome"? Never heard of it. The liver shunt test is usually one of the first things checked so i assume that means an MRI hasn't been done yet? Was the running into the fence part of a seizure episode? I might be confused but "rage syndrome" and fearful running into fences makes me t...

Elizabeth, very interesting about the Heartguard! Here's a copy of what i wrote last January (you can search on "Heartguard" for more info)... "I used to give my dogs Heartguard Plus every month without any apparent problems. Jackson started seizuring in Oct '03 but his seizures did not occur near t...

Hi Elizabeth, that does seem like a lot of seizures all of a sudden. I think they typically start slow and get worse over time, but at least one person here (one of the Debbies?) has a dog who started with really bad seizures which have gotten much better, so i guess it varies with the dog. I'd sugg...

I would suspect some underlying problem too. 12 is very old to start your typical idiopathic epilepsy.....ages 2-5 is more likely. Thirst always makes me think kidneys which often are an issue in old age. Weight loss isn't an epilepsy thing either. I haven't heard of heart problems causing seizures ...

Susan, how big is Benny boy? 1.2ml of KBr was about all my 55lb dog could handle and i doubt Benny is that big unless he's been putting in alot of overtime with the knife and fork. Or maybe the concentration is different....do you know how many milligrams per milliliter (i think 250mg/ml is typical)...

I haven't tried acupuncture but I've tried Chinese herbs and they didn't do anything. Of course there are an infinite variety and dosages and combinations of Chinese herbs so it takes quite a bit of time and money before you finally give up.

Oh, i wanted to mention that Jackson was on Pb & KBr & Zonisamide all at the same time and i never heard of any problem combining those drugs.

Debbie, i looked over Jackson's records during the time he was on Zonisamide last fall. By the way, i believe Zonisamide is the generic name for Zonegran. He weighs 55 lbs. The prescription said to start him on 100mg BID for 4 days, then increase to 200mg BID thereafter. I was told that there are fe...

Ok, i've come sheepishly crawling back with some newly revised evidence. Just wanted to add one more comment about this. If the claims of amazing healing powers made by holistic people are true, wouldn't you think they'd be the first people to DEMAND that they be put through a scientific study to prove those claims? It would be easy to do and it would finally put to rest...

Oh good, here's another opportunity for me to spew my negative opinions about topics which I know very little about. I have a friend who was "detoxified" by some holistic person. Not to get too graphic, she told me she thought she was gonna die during this detox program because her insides were comi...

I should probably say that i love all these varieties of dogs as much as anyone does. It's so much fun to see all the different sizes and shapes, from wiener dogs to great danes, they all make beautiful friends.

My AMATEUR UNTESTED theory (that everyone hates!) is that almost all dogs are essentially inbred freaks. Even the mutts came from inbred freaks a generation or two back. Think DUELING BANJOS. Anybody ever seen those wild dogs in Africa? Those are real dogs. Unlike most dogs, those dogs can actually ...

Yes, i would definitely try increasing the Pb and/or KBr if his blood levels aren't too high. Do you know what they are? The Zonegran (Zonisamide) is expensive. I think i was paying around $130 per month for it but i'm not exactly sure. I gave it 2-3 months and saw no improvement but it works for so...

Joe, i just read a bunch of your previous posts because my memory for details is no good. Tux is really not doing well. Jackson has seizures more often than Tux but there's a big difference...Jackson doesn't have clusters and Tux does. I was trying to figure out how much of the drugs Tux is on. It l...
