Cali, 96 days seizure free

:D Cali was maxed out on Zonisamide, Phenobarbital and was also taking Keppra XR and was still having cluster grandmal seizures every 2 weeks, the most was 12 in one day (and she went to the ER after the 4th in 20 minutes, they last 4 minutes each) and that was her last set of seizures. We started t...

Re: newly diagnosed + vacation booked = STRESSED owner - HEL

Lynne, It is not injectable Valium, it is injectable KEPPRA that is $90 per shot. Generic Keppra usually helps break her clusters, but it takes to long to get in her system (her last bout was 20 minutes of grand mal within 30 minutes, 4 clusters, then 8 more within a 24 hour span) so the neurologist...

Re: newly diagnosed + vacation booked = STRESSED owner - HEL

I also have a cluster pup and know all to well the sadness of leaving and wondering, what if I'm gone...I have to travel sometimes for work and vacation and I leave my epileptic dog with my brother, his girlfriend and their dog. Needless to say, CAli has had almost 1/2 of her seizures at there house...

Re: More drugs and Injectible Keppra for clusters...hmmmmm.

The pacing started once we added the Potassium Bromide. If she didn't use her nose to run into the plantation shutters every few seconds with a big bang, I could handle the pacing and falling into the bathtub. Been a month on it, can't wait for the pacing and falling over to stop. I'm going to rebui...

Re: More drugs and Injectible Keppra for clusters...hmmmmm.

They said to wait a month before the testing, so we haven't been tested yet. I needed to stop the PBromide for 3 days (per the vet) as her side effects were really bad, so not sure if that will restart her 30 day clock for the test. We have a new side effect today, she lost her bladder while sleepin...

Re: Side effect questions/whining

Cali had Bromide added 3 weeks ago and she is whiny, pacing and hungry. The neuro said this will go away after a few weeks. But, since she has problems walking, we are taking her of the bromide for 2 days and then back on. I'm hoping she gets her legs back.

Re: New here, still fairly new to epilepsy I guess

It is nice to know we are not alone in this process. It is an expensive process, and you know it is worth it. Cali is so high right now, all I want is my doggie back, but after her 12 seizures in a day at the beginning of the month and having them every 2 weeks, I know that the drugs are for the bes...

More drugs and Injectible Keppra for clusters...hmmmmm.

Cali's new side effects since adding the Potassium Bromide: Endless pacing, 1am-2am and 4am-5am (at least that is when it really bugs me)...no back end, Bambi's on the hardwood, then crawls on her knees to the rugs to get up. The Santa Ana winds blow her over. She tried to chase "Squirrel" and did a...

Re: Cali weaning off meds and onto Holistic

Thanks, last night was ruff. 7 seizures, the last two were at the ER. Now tonight, she started again. Tonights seizures are different, not grand mal. The first was just frozen, confused and a puddle of drool. The next two were total blindness and she was freaking out for about 5 minutes, coiling me ...

Re: I have a 2yr old rescued Black Black GSD with epilepsy

Thanks, She is spending the night at the ER...had 4 grand mals in less than 30 minutes, and considering they are 5 minutes long, not much recovery time, so I took her to the ER. She had her 5th as I loaded her in the car and her 6th after the ER got the IV in her. When I left her, she had gone 30 mi...

Re: I have a 2yr old rescued Black Black GSD with epilepsy

Sorry bout your pup. I can't get any vet to agree with me about Cali's belly starting the problem, but Cali's seizures started a few weeks after a nasty bout of vomiting and runs that lasted weeks. I have switched her over to a natural diet (freshfetchpetfoods) and homeopathic meds (I just posted wh...

Cali weaning off meds and onto Holistic

Hi all, Since the meds have not been working for Cali, cluster grand mal seizures around every 2 weeks, the neurologist and I have been weaning Cali off her meds over the past few months (her bloodwork put her at the top range of the meds). She had been on: 96 MG Phenobarital 2xs/day 400MG Zonisamid...

Re: How can I create a natural and healthy diet?

I've just finished doing a bunch of research on home cooking for my seizure pup...I decided on fresh fetch pet foods for a trial run to see if it helps. I'll try 6 weeks and see what happens (ordered food yesterday). Expensive, but since I'm tapering Cali of her meds because they are not working (wi...

Topamax and Felbatol

Anyone's vet neurologist prescribe Topamax or Felbatol?

Still trying to get Cali under control...
