Re: Cluster Seizure in Newly Adopted GS
Hi, Sorry you had to join...it's been a year for me and it is still heart wrenching to watch. Cali is a cluster dog as well. Once the vet neurolgist added 500MG Keppra 3xs a day for 3 days after she has her first seizure, the clusters have "so far" gone away (not the seizures, just the multiples aft...

Re: questioning medications
Thanks for the replys...she had 4 days of clusters before we put her on the drugs...started out slow and added more after each cluster day. Her nickname is Dopey as she was a drugged haze. Today is one year of her seizures and she celebrated with a group of clusters this morning:( Neurologist is goi...

Cali has always had the runs off and on...but now, I notice that a few days before her cluster seizures begin that her poops turn to liquid. Anyone else have that issue?
Thanks

Re: Keppra XR
Thanks Trevor...if you score the Keppra it is not extended release. The Keppra XR only went generic in the US at the end of 2011. It is a round tablet that is actually a plastic disk with a hole in it. The reason I know this is Cali poops out the "ghost pills" which are plastic discs. I am searching...

Hi, Cali is coming up on her 1 year anniversary of seizures. Before any medication, she averaged seizures every 30 days. On medications, she averages having seizures every 32 days. What am I gaining? Would they continue to get worse without the meds? 400MG Zonisamide 2xs day 64MG Phenobarbital 2xs d...

Keppra XR
Hi all, Adding the Keppra XR to Cali's drug cocktail she lasted 10 1/2 weeks before having 3 grand mal seizures within an hour this morning. I was hoping it was a wonder drug as the longest stretch before was 7 weeks. Funny, I just updated the neurologist yesterday and not 12 hours later, she has 3 ...

meds don't seem to help...
Just having a sad doggie day...thought the new meds (keppra xr) would work, feeling bad for my girl. Cali, female, spayed, 2YO Lab/Chow, 64 pounds, grand mal, lasts 2 minutes hard seizure, 2 minutes out, then 30-60 min post ictal pacing. Bloodwork and liver function tests normal. 400 MG Zonisamide 2...

Here is a link in regards to the icepack for seizures. It instantly stopped my dogs seizure one of the times, but had little effect the other times.

Re: HELLO
I'm fairly new to seizures with Cali as well. When I went to the vet neuro, she did some tests that tested neurological function...some head pushing, some follow the finger stuff and then a sideways wheelbarrel test (picked up both legs on the same side and walked her sideways to see if she could ke...

Re: Good news: generic Keppra Update!
Hi, how is the Keppra XR working? I'm headed to Costco in the am to pick up my prescription to add to the 400MG Zonisamide 2xs/day and the 64MG Phenobarbital 2x's/day...
Thanks,
Chris

Re: how much zonisamide can dogs take?
Well, we are not going to change the Zonisamide, but we are going to add Keppra XR. Since the Pheno Barbital seems to have done nothing, we are probably going to remove that (slowly) once we see if the Keppra XR is working. Anyone have Keppra XR experience? Picking it up tomorrow from Costco. Thanks...

Well, her Zonisamide level was 38 (range is 10-40)...now just waiting for the neuro to decide what to do next...my regular vet didn't think we would be adding any more Z...

Re: how much zonisamide can dogs take?
Thanks Barb and Sampson...I did the Z test on Cali this morning...from there I'll ask about adding the Keppra daily...I thought the neuro said the keppra was good for clustering but not as good for prevention...to much info, to fast...I'll ask once we get the results. Taking it one day at a time... ...

Re: how much zonisamide can dogs take?
Vet neuro just emailed, we are going to have her zonisamide levels checked before we raise the meds...they were tested when she was on 150mg 2xs/day, now she is up to 400mg 2xs/day...oh the fun of it all

Re: how much zonisamide can dogs take?
Thanks for the reply...the neurologist said that the Keppra is great for controlling cluster seizures so she wants me to use the Keppra to stop the clusters, thus giving after the first seizure...and so far, it has stopped the 4-5 she would have in the 24 hours seizure period. I have posted a few of...
