Re: Seem to have a totally blind dog, is there hope?

The meds can make the pups very uncoordinated...so it is possible your thinking he has completely lost his sight is just him stumbling around due to the drugs. It can take a while before they get their legs and coordination back.

Re: Is the glass half-full or half-empty?

I think I talked Jim out of having a seizure one day...or I should say postponed it until the next day. He was doing his pre-seizure rubbing of his chin on my leg and I picked up his head and talked him out of it. I even told my friends I talked him out of it, they gave me the "crazy nut" look. Then...

Re: First seizure but.....

my foster dog Jim goes blind as well. I take him outside after the first seizure so he walks into the fences instead of the walls in the house. Hopefully the meds will lessen the post ictal phase. Maybe he will just walk into the walls like Jim.

Re: Last Ditch Attempt

I was dealing with Cali's seizures 4-7 Grand Mal cluster seizures every two weeks. She was on Phenobarbital, zonisamide and keppra xr. Finally after 2 years we decided to do the Kbrovet (potassium bromide pills). We weaned her off the other 3 meds and she went 7 months with no seizures. Then due to ...

Re: First seizure but.....

Hi Paul, As you said, there were holes in walls...you can look for signs when you get home if there was a seizure. I looked for foam on the carpet where Cali normally sleeps. She would pace for hours after, so if she was pacing, she had a seizure. Get a video of the before bed activity, it could be ...

Re: NEW - 9 yr. old Min. Schnauzer (anesthesia related?)

You may want to have your vet confirm this, but I do remember a vet telling me that Acepromazine is contra-indicated for dogs who have epilepsy as it can lower the seizure threshold.

So, although your pup may have epilepsy, it is possible that the Ace was the cause of the seizure.

Re: Cole aka Mr. Wigglebutt

Cali was a drunken sailor for about 3-4 months, it was horrible, the Santa Ana winds would blow her over. Her body finally got used to the Potassium bromide and she got her sea legs back. Jim had his Potassium Bromide and Pheno increased 2 weeks ago and is on Keppra XR and Zonisamide as well. This p...

Re: The Mighty Roscoe

Sorry bout your pups seizures. Both of my seizure pups are starving after their seizures, but they are all different. If the foam was still thon Roscoe's face, you probably just missed it. And yes, we are the ones who need the valium ;) Hang in there. All we can do is the best we can do. Chris, Cali...

Re: Foster Dog Jim made it 41 days...Cali over 14 months!!!

Well Jim went 15 days and had 4 seizures this am in about 40 minutes. They were very different then his normal Grand Mal seizures. It was 5:30am and he jumped off the bed and was just not being normal so I flipped on the lights and went over to him, within a few minutes I could hear his heart start ...

Re: Foster Dog Jim made it 41 days...Cali over 14 months!!!

Thanks...I gave Jim the first one and then 10 minutes later gave him the second, then off to the ER. I was thinking that the dose was on the low side, I think the vet is being cautious, which is okay for now. I'm less than 10 minutes away from the 24 hour ER and they give the rescue group a great di...

Foster Dog Jim made it 41 days...Cali over 14 months!!!

Foster dog Jim had a ruff morning. 7 Grand Mal seizures in 30 minutes, yes, they were back to back with maybe 90 seconds in between. Last one was in the car on the way to the ER (5am of course). He's home now, didn't have any more. Cuddling me and exhausted from his ordeal. I have a question on the ...
