Re: Jay Our German Sheperd

Cali is a spaced out dog after all the meds in the ER. Usually takes about 3 days for her to start acting semi-normal. There were times when she could barely walk. The wind would blow her over. She is a clutz these days as well...she has also had diminished vision after a few of her episodes. And ye...

Re: Foster Dog

Just picked Jim up at the vet. The rescue wanted him to stay an extra night so they can do bloodwork etc...his phenoB levels were in line and his potassium bromide levels were very low so they upped his dose. The vet wants to talk to the rescue about adding Keppra as well. Hopefully they decide on t...

Re: Foster Dog

So Jim, the foster dog is a big lug 99% of the time, which is great. I'm trying to figure out if his two episodes of not being a great dog may be seizure related. First time, I thought maybe he just didn't have much training. I left for 90 minutes and upon my return, he was very happy. So happy that...

Foster Dog

Hi everyone, it's Cali's mom...she's getting close to the one year mark. So, I decided to celebrate I would foster a 3YO lab with epilepsy...I MUST BE CRAZY. Here's to hoping that the meds they put him on work. His family dumped him at the shelter to be put to sleep. They shelter called a rescue and...

Re: Waiting For The Other Shoe

When it would hit day 14, I would start to panic, knowing the clusters were around the corner...then got the meds straightened out...kept waiting and waiting, knowing it was coming...waited for 7 months...then a bad cluster episode...now June 10th will be a full year. Just hoping you find the right ...

Re: How Has an Epi Dog Changed Your Life

Hi, I was going to answer the how has an EPI dog changed your life, but then I read the seizure bout you went through. Having a cluster dog, I know all to well what you are going through. In less than 2 years, Cali had 66 seizures, as many as 13 in her cluster. 3-5 minutes of pure hell each time, ev...

Re: 2.5 Year Old Golden/Collie Mix with Cluster Seizures/Ata

Hi,
Cali as well had extreme rear end control issues on Potassium Bromide/Pheno combo. I don't remember how long, but at least a month before she didn't walk with that I drank a big bottle of vodka look. We still call her a stoned dopey dog...

Re: 3 Year Old Border Collie With Epilepsy

Cali is a cluster pup as well...most was 13 Grand Mal over 2 days in the ER. Working with the docs to find the right combo can be overwhelming. It took me 2 years and finally (fingers and paws still crossed) Cali is 3 weeks from ONE YEAR seizure free. Best of luck.

Re: My story ... so far

Hi Chris, Just caught up on this post...heart breaking... I tried everything for Cali, Zonisamide (400MG 2x/day, Keppra 3x/s day, Keppra XR 2xs/day, Pheno every 12 hours (as close to 12 hours as possible due to the short half life) and she was still clustering every 2 weeks. Then I started the Potas...

Re: First Grand Mal (sorry long, first post)

The KBr can make your pup very wobbly...it took Cali 2-3 months until she got her sea legs on. After Cali's grand mals, she is aimless for a few hours. My non-seizure dog had a head bob thing going on with muscle cramps and we found it was a reaction to medication for her auto-immune disorder. My ne...
