I found this today on Facebook: The Wally Foundation: To provide financial assistance to the owners of canine epileptics and dog rescue groups to obtain medications and veterinary services.

Re: new to epilepsy and prescribed Pexion

Interesting a new med, I don't think it is available in the US but what I read sounds good.

I too have a cluster pup so I know your pain all to well.

Re: My story ... so far

I'm pretty sure that vets can write prescriptions that can be obtained from a regular pharmacy. That is if the vet is licensed. My vet faxes in prescriptions to Costco and California Pet Pharmacy all the time. Also, interesting about the hearing...you should video that for your vet if you can. Do fi...

Re: Are these symptoms of idiopathic epilepsy or brain tumor

My vet defined control as one seizure every 30+ days. Since Cali is a cluster pup and has 5-10 seizures once she starts, the 30 day timing is out the window. For Cali, my definition of control is one "cluster" every 5-10 months. Try and get the neurologists email address, mine is GREAT at responding...

Re: Only Seizes in Car???

The way my neurologist explained it to me is there is a seizure threshold. Many things can lead up to seizures and the triggers can be different. I think of it as building up, building up, building up and when she gets in your car, the extra excitement throws her over the top and she has seizures. P...

Re: call for help

Sorry about all the seizures. Regular Keppra is given every 8 hours. The extended release Keppra every 12 hours. It is a little more often for dogs than humans as dogs process the pills quicker. I get my potassium bromide in a pill form, tossed on top of Cali's food. KBroVet and I order online, need...

Re: call for help

Yeah, it can get expensive. Since Cali tends to have between 4-10 grand mals anywhere between a minute and 12 hours apart, I try everything to break them as I am worried about status and the effect of her not recovering in between the seizures. The neurologist sold me some Keppra Intra-muscular bott...

Re: Are these symptoms of idiopathic epilepsy or brain tumor

When I went to the neurologist, $250, which included meds, she did some basic neurological tests. Pushing her nose one way, then the other way, looking for consistency. Then pickup up both of her left legs and wheelbarrowing her across the room and then doing both right legs, looking to see if she h...

Re: Increase in seizures with starting Phenobarbital?

Yes, Cali is very unusual on her drugs. She will leave the room if you sneeze, go under the dining room table if the tv is too loud, she never barked, but now she will jump up and bark if she hears a strange noise outside. And she is finally coming back around, but for about a year, she was afraid t...

Ask the receptionist if it is because they can't prescribe it and have you take it to a compounding pharmacy or they won't prescribe it.

Re: HELP! new seizures and now blindness

Cali had blind episodes after an ER stay. She would be fine, then would start freaking out because she couldn't see (no blink to threat) 6 episodes, lasted 1/2 day then fine.

Re: My story ... so far

Hi Chris, Welcome...you may want to ask your vet about giving and extra dose of Keppra in you notice a seizure coming on or if your pup has one. My neurologist said the Keppra is a very safe drug and can be increased if her actions lead me to believe she is going to seize or if she has a seizure. Ca...

Re: Border Collie that clusters

Welcome and sorry you had to join us. It took us over a year to finally get the drug combo that worked for Cali. My neurologist said that she is one of those difficult cases as the zonisamide, keppra xr and phenobarbital didn't work. When we finally added Potassium Bromide we went 7 months seizure f...
