Re: Lab with seizures
Sorry you had to join us. Search for a doggie neurologist in the area, they may be a little more familiar with all the medications used with our epileptic pups. And video the seizure if you can to show the vet exactly what is happening.

Re: Double whammy-Miniature poodle with diabetes and epileps
Cali was on Keppra, Zonisamide and Pheno and still having a boat load of seizures...then we added the Potassium Bromide. Under the neurologist's care we weaned her off the Keppra first, then the zonisamide, then the pheno until she was only on the Pot.Bro. It was a very long weaning process and it t...

Re: Double whammy-Miniature poodle with diabetes and epileps
Hang in there...it took us 11 months to find the right med combo...Potassium Bromide was the one for her. She went 7 months seizure free after we started, then the clock restarted and we are coming up to 10 weeks free now. It really does get better...I wouldn't have believed anyone if they told me t...

Re: Older dog experiencing seizures
If you can, take a video of the episode, this may help your vet determine what it is. The other thing is call your dog's name or move while calling it and see if they are awake and tracking you. This may help determine if it is a spasm or a true seizure. I have one dog with epilepsy but my other dog...

Re: Double whammy-Miniature poodle with diabetes and epileps
I used to have family watch my seizure dog, but it got too much for them as she generally seized while at their house. Then I got a friend who was a nurse to spend the night at my house with my pups (but then he got a job). And for my next trip, I asked at my vet's office and one of the vet techs is...

Re: 121 days seizure free
Thanks, she is doing better this week. She ended up having 10 seizures and spent 2 days in the ER. She is sleeping at my feet and I'm hoping we have a long stretch again. Upped per Potassium Bromide and added back in the Phenobarbital. I really hate pheno, she eats everything while on it.

Thanks...she is doing okay today, although a little manic. Pacing, pacing, pacing, sleep, sleep, sleep. Forgot that she looses bladder control when she is overdosed on meds.

Re: and the montser rears its ugly head once again...
Thanks...now up to 10 seizures and going to be staying at the ER until at least tonight. The overnight vet called early am and said her last seizure was very violent and she bit her tongue. I explained that was how they all had been, she said oh, I'm so sorry. I'll go over during visiting hours and ...

I too understand the 6am wakeup call all to well...except as the sun is coming up earlier, it is now 5:15am...I just have to learn to go to sleep earlier.
I hate this monster of a disease.

and the montser rears its ugly head once again...
Cali had made it 7 months and then Wednesday she had one seizure. I was grateful for the 7 months and even more grateful that it was only one instead of a cluster...wishful thinking. Today, CAli has had 8 grand mal seizures (so far) every 1-2 hours throughout the night and has been at the ER since 1...
