Re: 121 days seizure free
and after 7 months of being seizure free, Cali has had 8 seizures so far today and has been at the ER since 10am :( The classic signs returned, hid under the dining room table, knew it was coming, was just hoping it wasn't going to be as bad as it was. It started with one seizure on Wednesday and th...

Re: Finally had to start meds
Hi, Have you ever video taped the seizures to show to the vet? The reason I'm asking is the answering to his name by turning the head and eating cheese. I have an EPI pup and I also have a dog that used to have tremors. For tremor dog, I thought they were seizures but she was awake. I video'd them a...

Re: 121 days seizure free
Talk to your Neuro before removing any meds, but this is the schedule Cali's neurologist followed. The Keppra did not have to be weened, so we stopped that cold turkey (leaving it to stop the clusters after the first one, we give for 3 days after her clusters begin). The Zonisamide, she was on 400MG...

Re: Preventing weight gain on meds
Hi, my girls love their veggies and fruits. I won a book, The amazing treat diet for dogs that has some good veggie ideas to bulk up the food while keeping the calories low. Carrots are a staple. Cali is absolutely starving on her drugs, I tell everyone she is stoned and has the munchies...I've uppe...

Re: 7.5 good weeks
My neuro said that salt intake would dramatically effect the Potassium Bromide levels in Cali and recommended that she not go to the beach as she will drink the ocean water and to watch her around my pool stopping her from drinking it. She also recommended keeping consistent levels of salt in her di...

Re: 1 year old Dog's seizures becoming more frequent-Please
Yes, NORMAL LIFE is the goal!!!
Having to be home every 12 hours to give her the Phenobarbital really cut into my fun. Not to mention the 4am seizures. I hope you find the relief too!!!
So happy the Potassium Bromide is once a day, and it doesn't have to be at the same time every day.

Re: 1 year old Dog's seizures becoming more frequent-Please
By the way, when we were tapering Cali's PhenoBarbital off, she was on 64mg, then 48, then 32, then 16mg (it took a few months). When she was on the 16MG the Neuro said at those levels, she would not be in the theraputic range and it was not doing anything for her except for stopping any withdrawl s...

Re: 1 year old Dog's seizures becoming more frequent-Please
Hi, it took the neuro, vet, myself and Cali 18 months to get some relief. Cali, 65LB lab/chow mix was maxed out on Phenobarbital, Zonisamide and taking Keppra XR and was having cluster seizures about every 2 weeks, around 4 grand mal seizures each day. After her 50th seizure, and a 12 seizure day, I...

In regards to the rosemary the folks over at the Honest Kitchen sent me this link: http://www.canine-epilepsy.com/herbsforpets.html 3.To avoid confusion over Rosemary being included in this list of herbs that might prove helpful in controlling epilepsy, I asked the authors why oil of Rosemary is con...

Re: Long post-ictal phases
congrats on the 25 days. Cali is at 108 days after adding the Potassium Bromide. She is off all other meds now, but I have Keppra to give her if she has a seizure as she clusters. She is getting used to the PotBro as now she is sleeping until 5am instead of getting up 4-5x's a night. And one day she...

Re: New here
Hi Cali is a lab mix and started her seizures at 18 months, she just turned 3. In that time, she has had 50 grand mal seizures that I witnessed and probably a few when I wasn't around. My life has been centered around helping the dog for 18 months and it is hard (oh and not healthy for us humans). S...

Re: Long post-ictal phases
Cali's serious post ictal pacing was only about an hour and then she would pass out (when we first started). She is a cluster seizure dog, so she usually had 4-6 in a 24 hour period. Her to return to "normal" would be almost 24 hours after the last seizure in the cluster. As time has passed, not sur...

Re: Cali, 96 days seizure free
Thanks Lynne, What type of muzzle do you use? She is 70 pounds and I am in coyote country (just heard them ripping apart something behind the house) so I have been afraid to, but have been really thinking about it. Although, if they were to jump the fence, my other lab would kick their asses (they u...
