Re: New to the forum - lost my Siberian Husky last night

What in the world? At that young of an age? It almost makes me never want another dog if that is a risk we take. We've never had a dog with seizures until now, and we've had many dogs over the years. I just cannot imagine going through what you have been through. I am so very sorry.

Re: 67 seizures

Yeah this stupid disease is heartbreaking. I even read somewhere where a calcium deficiency could cause the seizures. My brain is weary from wondering when the next one will be. My victory is my dog does not have clusters. He just has full blown episodes that last around 4 minutes from beginning to ...

Re: New to Forum any advice would be most welcome

Lynne have you ever heard of a calcium deficiency causing that? I'm going to do some research on that since that never even crossed my mind.

Re: New to Forum any advice would be most welcome

Seizures are so unpredictable. Try to have an icebag handy and hold it on her back as soon as you see it coming. I do the same thing - I talk to my dog the whole time so he'll hear me when he starts coming out of it. He has grand-mal seizures, with lots of drool, convulsing and peeing. They come eve...

Re: When to start medication?

We do NOT medicate our dog. His seizures are so erratic - they were coming every 2 1/2 weeks, then he went 9 weeks, etc. We were giving him aspirin every day as he is 11 years old, and we took him off that. We think the aspirin triggers the seizures. He does not have them closer than 2 weeks so far,...

Re: Still trying to figure all of this out

Do try the ice bag on his back - as soon as you can. We never see warning signs - our dog is in a full seizure before we know it. The ice shortens the duration. Can't hurt to try it.

Does the vanilla ice cream bring him back to normal, sooner?

Re: forgot the heartbreak

Oh how I feel for you. I could not imagine that. Our dog doesn't have cluster seizures, but his last about 3 minutes, and I can hardly stand it. We do hold an ice pack on his back during the seizure and that shortens the duration. He is not on medication as this just started in August. I give him a ...

Re: Vet expertise vs. Owner familiarity - please weigh in

Wow being treated like that would have made me do or say something I'd regret later. Sounds like your dog went through a lot, and you went through it with him. I want to cry just reading your post. My dog will stiffen up and at the same time be turning, and his teeth are bared. He falls over and imm...

Re: When is the time to start meds?

My nerves are so shot! ALWAYS watching him waiting for the next one. I cannot stnad seeing him go thru that. Especially when it's before we get up and we don't know until afterwards. Re: When is the time to start meds?

Thank you Lynne for the push. I am so scared of cluster seizures - the ones he's having are bad enough. Vets around here don't stay long, so there is really no one to trust or build a relationship with. And the closest emergency vet is an hour away. Thank you so much - this was what I needed to hear.

When is the time to start meds?

I am brand new to this site, and after reading different posts about medication, I am really scared of it. Our dog had a seizure in April of 2013, then no more until about 6 months ago. He was having them about every 3 weeks, most recent was 2 weeks and 3 days. These meds sound awful. I'm going back...

Re: Using Ice Packs before/during seizure

We read about the ice and put ice and alcohol in an ice bag. It definitely works for our dog. The seizure duration is cut in half, and he doesn't paddle as bad. We haven't been able to catch it though soon enough to prevent it as this has just started and when it hits him, it hits him quick. He does...
