Re: New to this site and need to chat!

If you have a sliding door, you can get a portable dog door. Just a thought or if you are planning on staying for a while, take the existing door off the hinges and buy a door from Lowes or HD and install a dog door in the new door. They are less than $100. When u move, put the old door on. 100 buck...

Re: Been lurking here and really happy this website exists

Don't beat yourself up over that. Getting a second opinion is always a good idea. You could tell the new vet about your situation and that you can't afford more than you pay Petsmart and he may do the same. Truth be known, I don't think most vets know very much about CE, so the more you know the bet...

Re: Taurine

Brian I don't exactly remember the source of the dosage, but I found this article, which confirms the dose I was giving Peanut, which was about 350 mg/day. The article says about 150mg per 10 pounds. http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/5883083/description.html I don't believe this could hurt your dog ...

I think if you spend $65 the shipping is free and there is no tax. Can't find lower prices from a reliable supplier!

Re: Taurine

Brian We bought our Taurine online. We used Life Extension, b/c in general, their products are the most pure I have found. It is also very convenient being in powder form. We would give Peanut 1/8 of a teaspoon a day or about 375mg a day mixed in her food. We found it easier than capsules. The bottl...

Re: A Question About Prevention

Kelly Sounds like you are handling the situation much better and so is Roxy. From reading this forum for a while and from experience with my Peanut, most give a full extra dose to stop the seizures. That would mean if she gets say 45mg twice a day, you would give her an extra 45mg dose. I would give...

Re: Need Help

It is very frustrating, but hang in there. Once they adjust to the meds, she should be ok. Here is an interesting article which touches on the hind leg weakness. It suggests the Kbr causes it, but doesn't suggest the Pb does. I would be very careful about lowering the dosage. Keep us posted. One que...

Re: Need Help

Does he wear a flea collar? The meds definitely effect the hind leg weakness. It happens to almost every dog we read about on the forums. By some strange coincidence, Peanut had very bad weakness and we gave her some arthritis formula chews, called Synovi. It is inexpensive and available at Amazon. ...

Re: Been lurking here and really happy this website exists

Brian and Viv are right on the money. These meds take time to take effect. I am very surprised your vet took her off the meds so fast. As far a putting her to sleep, that is something only you can decide and live with. We certainly can't make that decision for you. What we can say is, this is not ea...

Re: When do YOU go to the emergency room? - Group Discussion

I'll throw my 2 cents in here :( I am not a big fan of emergency clinics to begin with. As far as I could see, I felt like I was monetarily raped. The last time I went it was $1,500 and that was overnight with no real treatment except an x-ray, valium drip, and saline. We got her back in worse shape...

Re: First post, very tired.....

Mike Good job with your log. I would suggest three things: 1. Make sure her food and snacks are wheat and soy free like Van Pattens or Nutro or any good quality food. Check the labels. This may help and can't hurt. 2. Start to do some simple non-med procedures when seizing like ocular compression an...

Re: First post, very tired.....

Mike Ok, sounds like you have things under control. Sorry for the abruptness. Normal procedure would be to stop the seizures using the "older" meds, then add Z and remove the older drugs, if possible. There has been some success here with Z, but like everything else with this disease, nothing works ...

Re: First post, very tired.....

Mike Your vet is a moron. Try a vet who is familiar with canine epilepsy. This is the first time I have read that a vet is trying Z before the other drugs. My Peanut was on Pb and Kbr for over 6 years and had no liver damage whatsoever. I would suggest you telling your vet to give you the meds, or s...
