Hey guys, just saying hello. I am really hoping things are going well for everyone. I am hanging in there but miss my boy every day. I dream of him all the time. No plans for a new bud but I still take every opportunity to pet a friendly sole.

Thanks for stopping bye to say "Hi". I don't really think you ever get over missing them, but after awhile it doesn't hurt so much.Getting another dog does help to fill the hole in your heart sometimes. Please stay in touch!

No kidding, I was just thinking about you yesterday!!! It's good to see you post again.

the hardest part of pet ownership is having to say goodbye, it never gets easier. Give yourself time and maybe you'll be able to fall in love with another. (I know someone with a litter of Irish!!!!)

Hi Ron (and all my old friends)

I was so sorry to hear about Finn.

I still read all the messages to see how everyone is.

Unfortunately I lost my husband late last year after a very difficult illness so I have not really been communicating with anyone.

I do wish you all well though and can promise that after every loss (canine, human, or anyone you have loved dearly) life does go on. It is never the same but as they say 'It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all'.

good to hear from you all and I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your husband Sue. As much as I love my Finn, your loss is infinitely greater. I hope you are doing OK.

I ended back up on the site looking for some info for my friend who's vet is pushing all the vaccines (including Lymes) and the monthly heartguard crap. THey live in Minnesota, for those not familiar, its near the Canadian Border;a very cold climate in winter and doesn't meet the temperature guidelines unitl July and ends in October.

They get humidity and mosquitos though, so heartworm medication and risking a seizure is better than getting heartworm. MK hasn't had any reactions to flea and heartworm preventatives, but some dogs do.

agreed for sure but not needed all year I am sure you agree. Using the American Heartworms own guidelines it's July through October.

Hi Ron - it's nice to know you still look in from time to time.
The pain you are feeling will eventually get easier and I am sure you will find it in your heart one day to get another pal.
I know that without my Brocky I would have found it unbelievably hard to cope. Yes I still miss kiKi desperately but a nudge from Brock and looking into his big eyes brings me back from the brink of tears.

You're correct, I don't give the meds all year and never did. I DO start in late April or early May though, because the slightest warm up in temps brings the mosquitos and fleas out. I give the heartworm and flea preventative every 42ish days being that the data says the medication stays in the system for 45 days.

sounds good and makes sense. My vet used to tell me 45 day cycles were just fine as well. I think I used to give it to him June throough october and then had him tested twice a year with the IDEXX test which covers Heartworm, Lyme and Erlichia anyway.

sorry to hear of your loss and so soon after losing your first pup. I saw my first Irish setter since losing Finn, it was so strange, petting him, he felt just like Finn and was of similar color too.

I'm so sorry to hear about Jet!! How sad and unfortunate. It seems there's nothing but sorrow on this board. I'm having my own concerns right now for MK, he's had a bloody nose and the vet suspects a nasal tumor. If it isn't one thing, it's two for these poor pups.

OH, so sorry! Keep the faith, it can also be allergies. Finn used to get nose bleeds as well after sneezing. My thoughts are with you.

He did?? Do you recall what his Sx were? MK started having a clear, runny nose out of one nostril a couple of months back. then he started having a bloody nose out of the opposite nostril about 6 weeks ago, but I don't think it happens everyday, but is easily missed because he gets a little gush that goes on his lip, then he licks it off making it difficult for me to know about. My vet wants to run a scan on him (we did the vWB test last night and he clotted right away, so it's not that), but I'm getting really strapped financially with the epilepsy hospital stays. If you can tell me what Finn was doing during nosebleeds, maybe I won't worry about this so much. MK isn't sneezing, coughing or any of the other things they say goes along with nasal tumors or infections, it's just an intermittent nose bleed.
