Hypo Allergenic Diet

Hello all: I am new to the forum so please excuse me if this is already a topic. I have a 12 year old Cockapoo who has been having seizures for 10 years. She goes to the vet and has blood work regularly and is currently on phenobarbital. She normally only has 1 seizure every 4 weeks or so. Last week she had 8 in one day! We rushed her to the vet and to make a long story short (too late) -she changed her diet to a Hypo-Allergenic and wants to monitor for the next 30 days. The vet states that many dogs have allergies many of which can trigger seizures.

I would like to hear from any of you that might have insight on this topic .

Thanks, Kevin

Good morning, I'm one of the moderators for this forum and am a retired veterinarian. To answer you, yes allergies can be the culprit. I would suggest you try the diet and medication and also watch for triggers to the seizures. For instance, watch for the "aura" that usually occurs prior to a seizure. What you saw the last time were cluster seizures. Please keep us posted, we are interested.box40rin
