3 years Seizure Free !!!!

Post by Whiski » Sat May 19, 2007 6:53 pm

I just wanted to let everyone here know that Whiski has now been over 3 years without a seizure. It is great to go that long. He responded to the meds almost immediately and has not had a seizure since the day her started his meds. I want everyone to know that it is possible to go back to living a normal life. I forget sometimes that Whiski has epilepsy. The vet says he is doing well. I am not sure how many people here will remember Whiski but I do recognize some of the names I have been reading. Congrats to all who have had success.

Congratulations! This must be the first time anyone ever had good results from mixing whiskey with Phenobarbitol.

Wow!! Congratulations!!

Did Whiski seize a lot in the beginning? I'm curious if he just seized a couple of times or was he like the other dogs on this board with clusters??

When Whiski had his first seizure it was when he was in a deep sleep. I woke up to this strange noise and found him laying on the couch having a seizure. Of course I didn't know what was happening at first, we got him outside for some fresh air after the seizure (not knowing about post-ictal) and he took off for 2 days. So in those 2 days he was gone we don't know if he had more seizures or what happened. We looked all over town and the outskirts of town for him and coulnd't find him. He did however come back by himself 2 days later. Scared and hungry. The vet did not put him on meds right away. 4 months later he had another seizure when my hubby was home from work for lunch. He had 4 more that day and night at 2 hour intervals after we started the meds. He has not had another seizure since then. He is one of the lucky ones. I am just thankful my vet found the right dose of medication the first time. I know he is not cured and as he ages he may get more seizures but for now we are happy with how things are progressing. Good luck to all your furbabes.
LOL @ the Whiskey and Phenobarbitol. Thanks for the laugh.

You are so right. Every free day is a blessing for them. And yes, Whiski being a great pyranese/border collie is quite the handful. He is a 100 lb baby. LOL.
