****NEW RECORD****

Post by Tux1 » Thu Aug 23, 2007 7:11 am

Sorry we have been away for awhile we just didnt want to spoil some sucess. Tux went 19 days and 23 hours. First time he cleared the 15 day mark. Unfortunately the sucess came to a close last night at 11pm with 3 siezures however the brightside is he almost went 3 weeks when we struggled to ever make it to 2 weeks. We are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel here. and things are getting better for Mr. Tux

Again we are sorry for our absence from the board

Great news for Mr Tux!

Hopefully the spells in between his seizures will get longer. Keep it going Tux!

He actually has been averaging 3 when he has them now. The last 10 times he has had siezures I think he has been around the 3-4 range. However they are getting further apart. When they use to be 3 in less then an hour they are now 3 in 2 hours. Doesnt help for getting sleep when it happens at night but He is well worth the lost sleep.

Dylan had most of his at nite too. I can sympathize with the no sleep.
it was like between 2am and noon were clear, afternoon and nite were the times for him

Spanky, the old man

Post by Mary Kate » Mon Aug 27, 2007 3:22 pm

Well, Spanky went almost 7 months!!! His last group of seizures lasted about 4 days roughly every 12 hours. This time he started with a double at 3p.m. on Saturday, then 3 a.m., Sunday 8 am., 2 p.m., 7 p.m., and at least 2 overnight. Now its Monday and he hasn't had another all day (even though I stayed home from work). Talked to the vet and we're going to up his phenobarbital to 2 pills twice a day instead of 1 and 1/2 twice a day. Keep your fingers crossed that 2 pills will do it. He has tolerated it very well even after all these years.

I don't post much (but read often) so to remind everyone (and hopefully encourage some), Spanky is 13 years old, has had epilepsy for 6 years, and has gone almost 9 months between episodes. I know it's hard to deal with (and expensive), but many dogs can be managed. You have to be patient, especially with the side effects of the medication. It took months for Spanky to get completely back to normal after starting on phenobarbital. But, he was never not adorable and always the love of my life.

Go Tux Go!!! Isn't it great when they break a record and you can relax just a little bit. Casey is on 22 days right now, and I'm holding my breath.
Big hugs to your guy and Spanky that was wonderful!!!!!!!!!!
Almost 7 months. I'm sorry the countdown begins again for him, but what a run!
