May this "honeymoon period" never end ... we're on day 28 and no seizure ... :D

and my "four-legged" kid is back 100% ... I say as I go around picking up all her toys she's spread all over the house and yard  if I could only teach her to put away her own toys ...   ... she hasn't been interested in any of them since she started having seizures

hi Ellen,

I spoke toooo sooooon ... sorry to say that between 5 am and 2:30 pm she had eleven seizures ... guess we'll have to start the count over ...

she's never had soooo many(in 9.5 hours no less) ... and some she barely got done with one and would start another ... other's she would go thru a short period of heavy fast panting like a locomotive ... then stop and breath normal, barely lift her head, look around sort of, ... then would come the blank look and another seizure ... these were the most violent seizures I've ever seen her have ... and vocal ...

Thanks Ellen for the happy come back ... makes me feel so not all alone in this ...

Hi Chris,
Is it possible for you to get Clorazepate for cluster seizures? When Molly has so many seizures her body temperature can rise to a dangerous level and runs the risk of brain damage. Plus the danger of status. I know you don't have access to a vet more than 2 times a week, but I would talk to them right away about Clorazepate and adding on Pb to her regimen, or possibly adding a dose of Pb after a seizure. We've tried extra Keppra and it didn't really work for Jake after a seizure, but it might for Molly.
Here is another link to check out if you haven't already.

I hope this helps and Molly stays seizure free.

You can also apply an ice pack to the middle of her back during a seizure to help cool her down.

hi Lynne,

thanks for your help ... I'm thinking about talking to the vet Mon.(if possible) about upping the keppra ... and/or adding another drug ...maybe Zonisamide, Clorazepate, ... or ??? ... trying hard to keep from going down the Pheno. road ... or see if a single dose of pheno. at 1st seizure is a possibility? ... need to find something we can use while she's seizing ... guess I'm back to valium? ... she doesn't wake up between seizures long enough to do anything orally ...

feels like I'm goin' in circles ...

p.s. ... the ice packs are a great idea but the reason I can't do drugs that need refrigeration is I don't have refrigeration ...

Oh Chris, I am so sorry! Lynne made some great suggestions. The Clorazepate should knock down the clusters, and is available in pill form. We administered it for three days following a seizure to keep them from happening again. And maybe since you don't have refrigeration, perhaps just cooling her down with a cold towel on her back would be helpful. It gets really dangerous when their body temps go up after repeated seizures. Zonisamide is often used as a first-line drug, so definitely look into that. Kip did not have any adverse side effects from Zonisamide, and it was not terribly expensive.

I hope Molly is doing OK today. I am sure it will take a few days for her to recover, so hang in there!

Thinking of you!!
