Found a combo that is helping!!

Post by ShilohsMom » Thu Dec 18, 2014 8:42 am

Shiloh had a seizure on Tuesday but that was the ONLY one he had! I think adding the PB on days he seizes and for 3 days after really helps to keep him from clustering. Can't tell you how happy that makes me. There was a shorter span between his last bout though (11 days), so maybe he won't go as long between, but if it reduces the number down, we're happy.

I know when we've made adjustments to meds in the past they do well for a while and then slip back, but for now, on this day, we're pretty stickin' happy and will be grateful for what we have and not worry about what might happen (it might not too).

That IS great news!!! We all love to hear a success story that beats back this terrible disease!

As you know I'm just beginning a journey into the unknown by adding Zonisamide to Mylo's Phenobarb so there's no telling where we're headed but I do hope it is good news as well!

Any reason your vet is not prescribing Phenobarb on a regular basis?

With this disease we have to take our victories where we can that's for sure.

Last year Shiloh's liver values were 4x too high and he was having liver failure. That was scary, BUT after a month of being off the PB his liver values went back to normal and the vet said we dodged a bullet. He'd been on PB for 3 1/2 years at a high dose so to be honest I really thought that it was a matter of time before it started affecting him. It's really important to get their blood work done regularly while they're on meds.

Hi Colleen
I' so glad to hear that Shiloh and you went through a much easier time. Jake went through so many ups and downs before things finally calmed down.
It looks like Santa decided to visit you a little early :)
You both deserve this so much!

Hugs all around!
Lynne

Thank you all.

Yep, early Christmas for us. I'll be off work from Christmas Eve until the 5th so it will be good to be home and just spend time with the hairy beasts. So grateful for today and what we have in this moment.

Hope you all have an equally blessed Christmas/holiday!!!!!

My Kieran, started with cluster seizures in late June. they were very bad, lasting upwards of 3 mins and more and more violent.
He started with PB and it worked fine til September, than he started focal seizures and we gave him diazepam in suppository form during seizure or immediately following(minutes). And started giving PB every 8 hours for 3 days.. Then we added Kbr, all of this per his neurologist, and he has had no seizure activity since September 16, 2014, nineteen weeks, so, so far so good.
