Pb Levels and Blood work

Post by Gentle Jacob's mom » Wed Feb 24, 2016 10:28 am

We've never gotten "control" of Jake's seizures the way we'd hoped to, but we've had our successes. He started out with seizures that lasted almost 7 minutes and now they're barely 15 seconds long. He's been on Pb for almost 8 years and we just got his tests results back. Not only are the Pb results perfect, but his regular blood work is great too! I posted this here because I consider it a success, and with this disease success can come in many different forms. I know how scary it is to put our fur babies on Pb. I cried for days.
I want the new members to know that just because we don't get the control we hope for doesn't mean our dogs can't live long and happy lives. Jake's 12th birthday is coming up in a few months. I never ever thought we'd get here. He showed me!! It wasn't because I didn't believe in him. It was because I scared.
I wanted to give you hope, and tell you that it CAN happen even when the cards seem to be stacked against you. I know Jake has stunned a lot of us. I don't think his stubbornness hurts one bit either :)
Don't give up...

I loved reading this post. Such an inspiration and gives hope that the "new normal" will eventually become part of our daily lives. Thanks for posting this Lynne!

Thanks for asking, Jen!
Eley has been well - no seizures since 2/12.

The other day she was acting really off and I just had a gut feeling it was going to be a seizure night so I gave her a clorazepate with her dinner.
Either it held off a seizure or she was never going to have one and just wanted extra meds :)

Good news, Lynne.

May you have many more years of good times and even less seizures for future success stories.

Thank you also for all of your encouraging and affirming comments to all of the members here. You are a blessing to us all.

Thank you everyone :) Jake really is one tough dog. Trevor that was incredibly sweet of you to say. I learned everything from the wonderful people here.
We just made it through a rare tornado in our area. We're all fine. Talk about being really happy one minute and then running for shelter the next.
Diana it sounds like the Clorazepate did it's job. Trust your instincts. Your gut feeling will help more than you know.
Take Care everyone.

So glad to hear this Lynne, especially about the PB levels coming back perfect! I know how worried you must of been until you had the results.

Dogs sure can surprise us with their sure will (and a bit of stubbornness thrown in :D ) but please don't sell yourself short. You have done an amazing job with Jake through the years which I think speaks volumes to his long and happy life.

I hope and pray with all sincerity that Jake and all the other fur babies continue to have success stories.
